You don't. No, seriously. You don't get rid of IE. Since 98, I'm pretty sure it's built into the shell of Windows (even try looking through explorer with a res hacker -- a text string states that "This version of Internet Explorer 4.0 is outdated" or something) My idea would probably try creating a program that does nothing (starts, terminates immediately) -- it's how I got rid of MSN Messenger (just rename the original IE exe and put one with its name in its place) Though I'm pretty sure removing IE in any case is impossible |

i tried filling the exe to IE with all FF's in hex workshop....seemed to work, a dos box now comes up and closes instantly. though still a bit annoying i suppose it will work edit: just....kidding. now the program is too big to fit into memory. WOOHOO. so now popups crash me! edit edit: I. Killed. It. IT'S DEAD. and I have this lovely site my friend found for me to thank for this. http://home.earthlink.net/~vorck/ though the language is a bit rough, it all works quite well (edited by MajinBlueDragon on 08-19-04 03:30 AM) (edited by MajinBlueDragon on 08-19-04 03:40 AM) |

Is IE your default browser? If so, change it to a browser that doesn't allow pop-ups, like Mozilla.

Actually I find it enough to remove Microsoft java machine (the cause for the many of the security related bugs :p) Or you could wait for SP2 for Windows XP if it's Win XP you use... I hope hijacked programs stop working with that service pack but I can't be sure... I wonder if installing a service pack would reinstall Internet explorer for you. (and oh, I neither like how they did combine IE and Windows. The old Win95 shell was alot faster without IE... sure the new one is nice but... ) |

I've heard ill effects from removing IE from the system so I dunno. Let's just hope none of them pop up for you. So yeah, if your system starts behaving weirdly, don't complain to us. But anyways, good job at finding a way to remove IE. |

Internet Explorer isn't as integrated as Microsoft likes to say it is, even in Windows XP. I wouldn't be surprised if Longhorn is just the same hype about integration, while really being not integrated so much.

Really, don't remove it. It may only mess up the registry. Simply ignore it.

The reason thoose progams dosen't work... they use quite abit of IE. Just hope that some games dosen't freak out now, there is a few games using a browser. (like Gunbound, at the start) |

lucky I was spared from the curse of GB addiction thing was, I started up step mania and I got an error...almost had a heart attack, thought it was the fucking IE's fault. Luckily, it was just a misplaced folder in the songs directory, no harm done ^^

First party AIM depends on IE for certain features... and the MSN client requires it just to run But, of course, that's what Gaim is for. |

There is a program I used awhile ago in a few formats back called IE eradicator. It's about 56kb in size, you run it one time and it does exactly what it says. I run win98/se so I wouldn't be able to comment on how it would work on another OS, but afterwards windows explorer was A-F&^%ng-mazingly fast. IE is integrated with the windows shell so removing it with that tool made evrything faster and more stable. But, having said all that if you use your computer for anything more than a place to store recipes or some such it's no good. It removed way to many of the features that I had liked in windows. Best thing, if you really dislike IE that much would be to go to internet options>advanced>Show internet explorer on desktop, uncheck it and use a browser of your choice.

I tried the program you talked about MaritimeSea, so far I've seen only a slight speed change but it seems to stay stable. |
