well...according to this, a small group in Britian say we are...
Many Species at Risk of Extinction

I dunno, in some ways, I don't care because this will happen over a long period of time and I'll most certainly be dead when it is in full swing. In other ways, I am concerned, but I can't explain why

Hmmm, quite sad. The natural order of things would be totally fucked up if all these species were extinct.

The Decline.

That's what first came to mind when I saw that.

Amazing how nobody cares anymore.

I don't think it's the fact that people don't care, it's the fact that there are other problems out there. What about terrorism?

I don't mean to seem insensitive, but I personally think we need to focus on preserving peace and justice before we start worrying about a couple species of birds and plants dying.

Do you know WHY there are terrorist attacks? It's because of political and religious bullshit. If we stopped focusing on THAT crap and tried to do good in the world be preserving the damn planet we live on, maybe half of the world wouldn't hate us so much. As for terrorist of other countries, meh, we can't be that mother of the world now, can we

knuck: This won't neccessarily caused by us.

If something started 50,000 years ago, it's going to end in one way...

We may actually be able to prevent something like this in the near future with out current technology.

I'm sorry, but I don't understand what "crap" you're talking about. The "crap" that I was referring to are the people who want to slaughter other people over ideas. Granted, I disagree with my share of people, but it's not thier fault if I decide to pull a gun on them. All I meant to say was that I believe that there are other issues that are out there, such as the preservation of human life, that can have people distracted from issues like this. That's all.

Not that Im an envoronmentalist, but I hate the word "extinct". Just because we are smarter(In only a few ways), have opposable thumbs, and have a set way to communicate, doesnt mean we have to go out and dominate the planet.

Besides, If we didnt pollute as much, half of these species wouldnt be near death.

Extinctions happen, and they are caused by natural causes. Last time i checked, humans came out of nature and therefore, if we are resposible for their extinction, it's a natural cause. We can't preserve things that were meant to go extinct.

Humans come from nature, so whatever we do is a natural cause.
And if this has happened 5 times before already and we weren't involved, who's to say it's our fault this time? Sounds to me like a natural cycle.

Nicely put I might add.

Most diseases, flu's, and illenesses spread because of our lack of care for our planet.

Possibly...I don't see it that way.

Passenger pigeons literally were hunted to extinction...a similar fate fell the dodo bird...environmental damage & de-forestation has destroyed so many species that only God knows them all. From what I've been told, Mexico City, the largest city on earth, is becoming more unlivable with each passing year thanks to air pollution. The list goes on much longer; I don't know what all that is that should never have been thanks to human hands.

And it's that kind of complacency, thinking it just another natural occurance since humans evolved from nature, that allows things like that to continue.

I'm more worried about the runaway greenhouse effect. What happened to Venus will happen to us. Once it starts, there are things we can do to stop it, but... people are pretty lazy in nature, most people probably will just assume the rest will do everything they can and we'll all die... lazy bastards...

If missiles, pesticides, air pollution, politics and ignorance are natural order, I guess we're next.

I completly and totally agree with you. I would like to change one small thing though. ...doesn't mean we have the RIGHT to go out and dominate the planet.

And I'm glad you added that "(In only a few ways)" too. Because we're certainly stupid in a lot of areas compared to other creatures. Other animals kill for food and territorial reasons. We kill each other over....well, what DON'T we kill each other over? We even have people killed on the streets just for their Air Jordans.

Kitten Yiffer:

"Humans have the most control over the earth, that gives us the biggest responsbility too."

I agree with that as well.

Guru of Nuru:

"We can't preserve things that were meant to go extinct."

Now that I can't agree on. We most certainly can if we actually cared. Well, let me rephrase. We can if MOST of us cared instead of just a small few. I for one do care.
