Just wanted to alert the lot of you who only go to this forum and nothing else that there's a rather nifty Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island editor out called EggVine, made by Squash Monster. It edits levels for a living, but if you find any other offsets with data, there's also a built-in "Hex editor" - put in the offset, get the data, change it, save, and Bob's your uncle.

(I called this semi-offtopic because atleast the game's name includes Super Mario World; I also know ofcourse that a large number of hacks here include YI graphics, and there's clearly an interest in hacking YI as well here.)

I guess I should also mention that a demo of the first released hack authored with this demo - SMW2+, made by Golden Yoshi - is out.

And any other thread about SMW2 hacking should go into Rom hacking (so this place dosen't clutter up with them, their offtopic), unless they rename this forum to "SMW and SMW2" hacking. (and I would prefer having their own forums)

If there is enough threads in ROM hacking there may be a SMW2 forum, we have to see...

Go and give it a try, it's quite powerful editor for being so new.

Make sure you Back Up your Rom often, because I've gotten some glitches with this program that will corrupt the Rom (but the editor still seems to be able to read the Levels in most cases, just the emulator won't play it anymore)

Edit: Luckily in my case, I was able to use a Hex Editor to copy my Levels into a clean Rom.

I'd do that anyway when working with computers. There are too many people complaining when their hard disks crash and the last full backup was one year ago

The editor is already very powerful; I only messed a little with it and it is nice.
Sadly too many objects are tileset specific again . Placing some donut blocks in 1-1 show glitchy left/right "shake" animation graphics when Yoshi is standing at one of them before it descends down

Other than else - pretty good. Adding categories for the sprite and object list and direct drag and drop might of objects and sprites (instead of clicking "Create" and "Remove" or using the hotkey combinations) improve its GUI in time too

Yes, this is a very nice editor (but of course there's plenty of room for for improvement since it's in its early stages still)

One bug I've come across is when you atemept to switch a blocks overlaping/underlying order (Z Order), the program crashes about 40% of the time.
Also, I think this command should be something like Shift+Right Click or Shift+Left Click, so that Pasting another object that's already set can easily be done by simply just selecting the Object, and Right Clicking, like in Lunar Magic (and that would also be the same for creating a new object from the list).

And also, Deleting an object should be the "Delete" Button

Well, this is very good program, and I can't wait until it can render Blocks/Sprites with the Gfx from the Rom.

BTW, Does anyone know if Midway Entrances can be properly set up yet?

There are a lot of objects in the game that can be make the level not run. There are no known corruption bugs at the moment, but it's still hard to figure out what YI is choking on.

The suggestions on catagorizing objects have been taken care of with the latest release. Tileset problems suck, but I can't do anything about it right now.

I've not been able to reproduce z order bugs recently. Can you give me a set of instructions to do that so I can fix it?

Midway entrances can be properly set up, but EggVine isn't going to do it yet.

thats coz, although the FG tile of the donut block works fine in this tilest, the sprite tileset is not the same. And the FG donut bridge tile will turn into a sprite when Yoshi stepes on her, so both FG and sprites tilesets have to be cared.

@ Aioria
I found some Donut Blocks that are Sprites (Sprites # 117 & #118).

Edit: @Squash Monster:
Hmm, now I can't seem to get the Z Order bug to ocurr (of course, now that I'm trying to get it screw up, it won't, but when I don't want it to screw up, that's all likes to do,... don't you just love the way things like that work )

Well, if I figure out what's causing it, I'll let you know right away .

Since version 0.70, I've fixed more bugs than I can actually remember. It might have been one of those.

Sounds incredible. No doubt when it's more complete I'll have a look at it. I really should get back into the scene one day.. So many endeavours, so little time

EggVine does a very good job of editing levels right now. You'd be suprised how well you can work without graphics.

Lack of time is always a killer, though. I like your hacks too, so you being missing isn't too fun.

This thread wasn't as much for discussing EggVine as is was for pointing you to the EggVine thread. If you've got a question that covers both SMW and EggVine/SMW2 in some twisted way, you're ofcourse welcome to post it here. (Comparing with LM not withstanding.)
