As we all know, the quickest way to restore health in 99% of all RPGs is via inns. It's an inn; big deal. You sleep a little. After losing all but a few of your hit points, you'd think that it would take more than a little nap to restore your health. So... Whaddaya think goes on in those inns?

Even more funny how certain RPG's revives persons in INN's...

If it's not a inn, it's a hotel. If not a hotel it's a pok

It hails from actual RPGs, like Dungeons and Dragons. You'd always start your adventure out at a tavern, and everyone who was going to be in your party would be right there and join up on the adventure whether or not you really all had a reason to work together.

Thus, when programmers decided to try to make something like an RPG, the tavern or inn was an already existant choice for convenient and nonsensical mechanics, so it gained that function.

Or something, I half made that up.

You might actually be right there, but it's basically a standard feature of RPG's. If you sleep, then you'll regain all your health. Doesn't matter if you just have a flesh wound or lost an arm, it'll be all better in the morning.

Console wise, I believe Dragon Warrior would be the first to employ an inn...

Yeah, but...

- You only had one main hero (male) in DW.
- You could have an all-male party in DW3 or Final Fantasy.

So... *whistles*

They might as well just be honest one day in an RPG and have you stay at a brothel.

A Bed & Breakfast would be more restorative, therefore, being the more plausible rest area for HP, IMO.

I saw an RPG once that had brothels. It was some half completed thing I got with a disk full of Mac game demos.

I think a large brothel would be a pretty interesting dungeon type place in a game; it would be somewhat like being in a theiving guild hideout but with different decour and quite likely higher aspects of suprise encounters.

Earthbound broke some ground. You can heal yourself at the hotels littered around the cities.. but if you wanted to revive your fallen friend, you was gonna have to pay him or her a visit in the hospital....

I can see it now...

-Hero fights valiantly, gets injured.
-Hero goes to a brothel to have his wounds soothed.
-Hero leaves brothel feeling refreshed and ready to go.
-Hero starts taking damage as he walks away, is confused.
-A message comes up: "Hero has syphilis!"

Even futuristic games for some reason make you sleep. Take a look at Fallout. Although I STILL can't quite figure out how to take a rest in between encounters, I'm 99% sure that you have to.

Cloud... damn that lucky bastard I think those RPG developers have dirty minds and they secretly implement their twisted fantasies into the "healing process" a child's video game hero. Tsk tsk tsk... Where's Kawa? He should be gobbling this up like a fat kid eating cake...

I know what would happen. Many (more) giggling FF7 fanboys claiming it's the best game of all time.

And if the scene was a full CGI cutscene, well, the world would explode.
