I will never ever smoke or take snuff. (almost everyone who smoke at my age are females, the males take snuff... which I find disgusting )

I can't stand when smokers stands where people pass, i'm not saying that all smokers are bad... but there is idiots who stand in the middle of the entrance and smoke. Think on the people with astma for gods sake.

And oh, I got enough lectures why smoking is bad and what it includes... I do not want tar in my lungs.

It would be funny if the tobacco company suddenly failed and everyone lost the quick income cigarettes. But then everone who smokes would probably have withdrawls and die....

But then again smoking is your own decision, but a stupid one IMO if you chose it...

I'm surprised that there hasn't been anyone suing the tobacco companies because they've "gotten sick" by smoking the cigarettes. If there have been such issues, I haven't heard any. But seeing as there astounding proof of malign conditions occurring to your body, I doubt anyone would try such a foolish notion. . . BUT -- you never know, people sue over the stupiest things nowadays.

The sad thing is, that a lot of people won't admit how addicted they are. Saying that they could stop, but don't want to. They know deep down that they can't because they are truley addicted. But they have to laugh out loud and tell themselves they could, when they couldn't.

Well, some people aren't that addicted. I'm sure that a lot of students at my university only smoke when they're on campus, but there's ALWAYS exceptions.

Don't get me wrong - they are addictive. No question about that, all the research/facts can't be wrong. But if you smoke and don't want to make it a habit, then I think you have to be very careful and employ the "moderation" approach.

That looks like my mother. She's spending tons of money on cigarretes, and when I tell here: "You're spending aroung 100$-150$ a week on them, on you don't seem to be able to control yourself" she tells me: "I can". WTF?

$100-150?!?

*does math* Cartons are around $60-65 Canadian around here based on location, so unless she's a REALLY heavy smoker, that sounds like a pretty high estimate.

(In case you Americans are confused about our prices, don't forget that most cigarettes in Canada come in packs of 25. Don't ask me WHY we want to put those extra 5 in, but... )

Ai ya...

*calculates* 200 in a carton... $100 would likely be 1 1/2 cartons, so that's 300 a week... divided by 7... That's around 42 a day.

I know some people do smoke a lot, but that's like... 2 packs for Americans. That's insane.

At least, you can count in my sisters who 'burrow' some cigs to my mother (often a pack/ week). But yes, my mother can easily smoke a 25 cigs pack a day.

Well, that's at least a little more understandable.

Then again, there's no unwritten that says you have to smoke that much. A few of my friends smoke and have permission to do so, but they might smoke... oh... 10 a day or so. And that's if they go out.

I'm like Hiryuu - I don't mind if someone smokes, but I'm also not going to jump all over them because of it. It's their life and they have to be responsible when it comes to the choices they make. As long as you don't go overboard and if you enjoy it, then do so.

I think you can be 18 to purchase cigarettes here. I remember seeing it on the doors to little shops before you walk in.

Heh when we drove to LA, my dad kept on lighten them like nothin else. He kept on going one after another, or with a little break and he only took a few puffs. My mom said he was nervous, nooow I could tell when he's nervous. He did it when we got there too . I told my mom and she told me that he's nervous but he could at least try to get rid of it in a different way.

I don't even know how much he spends on cigerettes. I think they run about $40 a carton. He doesn't buy too many a week but he goes about every 2 weeks I think.

I smoke if I'm out drinking, and I get bored. I'm not addicted or anything, but sometimes I get sudden urges to buy cigarettes. Mostly when I'm drunk heh.. Though I haven't smoked a cigarette for ages, and today I really wanted to for some reason...

I'm betting that when I come back from Carling in a couple of weeks I'm going to be addicted x_X

Smoking is pointless. I would, however, smoke rather than take a bullet, because well, smoking doesn't immediately kill. I am proud to say that none of my friends or family smoke. However, my uncle used to smoke, and I actually got him to stop. He, just like most of my extended family, lives in India. So, even though I haven't them a lot, all of us are really close as a family and I saw this as a problem. At age 6(he visited us a couple of times), since I loved him and didn't want to lose him, I sent a picture to him with a deep message. And he quit smoking ever since.
