All admin-only scripts now in admin/. Sorry we didn't put this in 72pt in the version history, but it is there.

Ok, question I asked in the previous thread and something I would like to know with many other people I am sure. Will there ever be a release? And when I say release I mean one in the next half year or so not 3 years.

I think a lot of people would like to know this.

As in zipped up with documents and installation/migration scripts? Possibly, but not within the next six months. Next nine months or year, perhaps.

Jesper, we could release kinda like 1.8a and just snapshot the code, dump the database struct and the required data every so often,

don't provide any documentation, or migration / upgrade scripts...

and then people who are smart enough to convert their databases between each release can run it, otherwise they can't...

I upgraded my forum from 1.8 to 1.9

It seems to be a good idea. Less people could use it.

Ah yes. When war was beginning.

It's entirely possible that we'll do it the way Erk says for the brave and/or smart ones. We could mark up Acmlm's-specific code. Something like this:

/** @acmlm */
foo(bar);
/** @/acmlm */

And then we'd just run the scripts through a 'makedist' script and it'd make copies of the scripts, remove the Acmlm's-specific code and package it somehow. We could even do some documentation to bundle in with similar tags. (And for those of you familiar, yes, I snagged the syntax from JavaDoc.)

It should be noted that I still want to do a 'sharp' release when this is all done though. Migration scripts, installation instructions, and a simple reference to a few of the key db tables. If anyone's up for writing docs, that'd be great.

No, the year war was beginning was 2101 AD.

And of course you wouldn't even go near shop.php when sending this ._.

Either way... I'm sure that once the next version gets released, another hell hole of acmlmboards will pop up

No, we didn't go near that, as we don't have access to that code. It's been stated already, and furthermore it's not anywhere near our top priority for 1.93. Either Acmlm includes it in 1.95 or he doesn't. That's up to him.

As for people documenting this, I'm looking for people fitting all of these:
  • people that have been on 1.9 for atleast six months
  • people that have been comfortable using it
  • people that have been able to fix anything that's been broken OR
    have modified either many small parts or atleast one big part of the code to tighten security, upgrade/tweak functionality or introduce new features
  • people that have migrated the data to the new DB formats by themselves (only applies if they upgraded)
  • and people that can document
There are not a lot of these out there, but anything less would have the potential to not work out that great - bad documentation, misunderstanding of concepts, etc.

People who have worked with 1.9 for 6 months?

That brings the total number down to 0.01% of the Acmlmboard using population, since I haven't seen anyone running 1.9 besides Erk and this one

So it seems that you didn't search enough.
Randy use 1.9+
Ogre uses 1.9+
There are a FEW more people, but it's not 0.01% of all.

The smart people who know how to work with PHP, in other words.

Yeah, I'm sure there's room for "bleeding edge" releases, but only for people who aren't total n00bs at this.

I volunteer to clean up all the grammar.

umm... Are there any plans to clean up the output? Perferably to something that at least resembles real HTML.

Erk if you would like I would be more then happy to show you I can perfectly install a board. Furthermore I have tweaked with Acmlms code before. And I have had a board for 6+ months. I also added some features, and I still am.

Sorry just had to clear that up... And you can continue reading. Have a great day.

I think most of all users who have a copy have that limited experience

Most of the people have 1.8 or 1.8a (though not everyone, of course)..

I did a German translation for 1.8, but even for the new one in 1.8a I was already too lazy edit to the text again
And as for converting between nightly builds - it is his/her concern to have everything updated. Like a daily backup of the entire database should be done anyway; and keeping _unmodified_ copies of each board file is anyway required
I'd hate people saying "Omfg, teh board update screwed my forum and I have no backup !!!oneon" (assuming there might be some moron who got a copy of the "new" files and handed them to other users)
