Peer Sprite Viewer has been updated to v1.35. From the release notes

v1.35
New
- Added recompression for Final Fantasy VI. Routine has not been thoroughly tested, so let me know if there are any issues.
- Added an "Apply Mask" option to the pointer table dialog. For use with mirrored ROM addresses.
- Most settings are now stored in the registry.
Fixed
- Added a Save ROM button, so that recompression will actually make a difference.
- Fixed a bug in the PSVRender library that caused RGB modes to redraw the image window a few thousand times.
- Clicking cancel on the pointer dialog no longer acts as if ok was clicked

You can get it from http://evilpeer.net/crypt/PSV135.zip.

And one new screen, from the WIP.

I thought there was something afoot with no save button, but I told myself "You just don't understand it fool! Get back to work!"

Chickenlump and Evil Peer... best two things to come out of Indiana since... well... I can't think of anything better to come out of there besides basketball, corn, and the Indy 500. Programs like these prove that they are men of genius.

Actually, I didn't particularly want to add another button at first (since there's already like what? Ten?). I considered just having the recompressor automatically save the ROM. But that breaks one of the cardinal rules of UI design, of never having something perform unintuitive / undocumented tasks.

Snow, rain, snow, 80 degree weather, snow, more rain. In that order. Just last week alone.
Free time it is.

Ten buttons isn't that bad. It just gives an impressive look to it, the sheer amount of options available. My first attempt at an editor had so many UI attrocities, its not funny. (though if I posted it here, it would garner a few laughs )

False. Another one of the cardinal rules of UI design is to avoid clutter. I forget what the magic number is, but I believe that somewhere around the tenth page element, interfaces begin to become more confusing and less productive for users.

With the mental count I just did in my head, the main dialog for PSV has about 24 elements, so I've already doubled that. But fortunately, well organized dialogs can push that number a little bit farther, so I'm probably at about the maximum amount right now.

I've never had what I would consider to be a truly bad UI design for one of my programs, but I have had a few misfires. The original layout for PSV was not so hot.

You know, we're just ROM hackers, we don't really care about the good looking design like if we'd actually BUY the program.

:smirk: You have a point of course, but I do this for a living so I tend to nitpick things like this, especially when its my work.

In other news, PST Mark 5 has finally cleared all errors, and I'm now coding the new menu elements. I've already got quite a bit of it done, and I've only put about 15 minutes worth of work into it.

I still need to code the new dialog for "Trace From" and the stuff that stores some of the settings to the registry. I hope to release it today. Or rather to get it to Zophar's today. It took them two days to get PSV v1.30 up.

Well, you have a point there too.
And yes, Zophar can be slow with uploading sometimes.

Won't be happening today. The crappy code in zlib decided to break when I added MFC into the mix. I managed to fix it, but I've still got to code all the registry stuff. It'll have to wait until next week.
