We saw some signs earlier. iTunes for Windows last fall (touting the slogan "Hell froze over"), me making some kind of peace treaty with Xkeeper, Legion's recent enthusiastic switch to Firefox, and now, something rating quite high: We've got developer access to the AcmlmBoard code. Dev FTP is go. Or, in plain text, other people than Acmlm, Emuz or ErkDog will be able to make changes to the current board code.

For some security and stability reasons we won't be changing your code here live, but among the first things we'll do will be smaller 'control-panel'-ish stuff. The ability to close registration, or block it from a certain IP, or from all proxies. Block creating threads. Etc.

But then comes the new -features- we'll do. We've got some pretty cool stuff planned. One small one will be the ability to ignore certain post layouts, and some pretty sweeping changes to post layouts will come too, down the road, as welll as some entirely new stuff.

Post whatever features or tweaks you want here. Security issues and fixing broken things - hello polls! remember me? - will be our priority, but when that's done we're free to do some features.

Not that this is a new feature per se, but how about the implementation of my more ranksets?

I know other people besides me were working on some...

Other than that, I can't think of a whole lot at the moment. Maybe something along the lines of what I just mentioned, where we could upload our ranksets to a "test" page and see how everything works.

First feature implemented - blockable features. Admins can block certain features from being used. Right now, the registration page reads "Sorry, but this feature has temporarily been disabled.". With a few clicks I can change registration from disabled to enabled and back. Neat. Not much in its own worth, but something that's been requested by the staff for a long while, and some actual "official" development on the board.

And again, any changes to this will not be seen here. They are on the development server. I might find I want to give out the URL to that in the future to test stuff but not currently.

Now I shall follow GbBoy's suggestion and look into enabling the toolbar.

Sooo... is this going to be like... Acmlm board 1.95?

I would say custom window colors and backgrounds(So you can have more of a 'personal' viewing experience), but Id probably be asking too much.

To answer some common questions:

What are you doing to the toolbars? Does it work in $modern_browser?

This is a Firefox screenshot of the new toolbar. I've implemented much better support for schemes that don't set their own bevel colors, such as Christmas, which I'm always on. Those schemes will get a 50% transculent white as a background for their toolbar. Clicking or toggling a button adds another 50%. All menus are 50% transculent as well, and they now span four columns in addition to rows. Makes more sense when we only have icons in them, and you no longer have to scroll if you pull down the smiley menu and have a small screen.

The toolbar is enabled for all browsers identifying as either of:
- IE4+
- a Gecko browser (all Mozilla browsers plus Safari)
- a KHTML browser (Safari or Konqueror, a Linux browser)
- Opera
- OmniWeb (a Mac browser)

What version will this be?

1.93bn, where n is the 'build' number. We bump it when there's a big enough change between versions. I'd hope for a "release" - copying the code over to this board - every fifth build, but that's up for Acmlm to decide.

Seems weird for a version number.

Not really, 1.93beta?

Edited for slight stretching.

"build". 1.93 build one. It has old roots - on some C projects you would increase a number every time you recompiled - build - your program so that you could refer to every version that way. "That problem was fixed in build 45 - download a new one."

I don't even have to compile anything - PHP interprets the code when loading - so in that way it has lost its real meaning, but the term is a good term to use to describe small version changes.
