I personally think that they should. In the edit profile menu we should have a change user name button next to our current username. That way we wouldn't have to bug the admins about changing our usernames. Especially with this Russianada (is that how its spelt?) thing going on. So what do you think?

No, just because I think that feature would be abused way too much and give a bad name to those who wouldn't abuse it.

Besides, it's not that hard to ask an admin for the change....heck....I should now, I got several PMs about it the other day.

Great give the power to change names to retarded people who would change their name to whatever every 15 seconds.

You're sure a smart one!

Hay, I just thought that the admins didn't like to get bugged with name changes every five seconds. Nvm then

Um, no.

Trust me, you'd have people running around abusing that pretty quickly and it makes it really hard to keep track of users.

You could have a special group of user of the oldbie/trusted category who can change their name, since they're the ones that ask and are granted a name change most of the time ;p

EDIT: While I'm here... Can anyone remove the capital K from my name and replace it with a small k? The acmlm haxor who wanted to be nice to me and register my name apparently didn't know that I don't capitalize my name :/

My answer: No.

But you could allow for people who have a thousand posts or something to be able to have that unlocked for them.

...

No, it's still a bad idea.

Hmmm. While not a bad idea, I wouldn't put suddenly dropping that ethic or working up to it with the sole reason for doing so being to abuse it past anyone.

Aaugh, NO. It's confusing enough with the whole Russianada thing going on, we don't need EVERYONE jumping on the bandwagon!

Also, like Valcion mentioned, we'd have to deal with idiots changing it every 15 seconds (the approximate lifespan of the average stupid fad).

i barely think the option should be available for the user to change their name through admin's in the first place. it's just silly, what's the use of another name?? you pick one name, stick with it. you don't like the name...tough.

then again, i'm also of the opinion that post counts and other such ineffectuals are rediculous as well. *gavin shrugs*

in my opinion it just adds to the already large influx of spam/lame posts which this board consists of. as a general rule of pollution control, i vote this no. it's tough enough mitigating through awesomely l337 posts speaking of n00bs and COLOR OF MY POST LAYOUT that one added gust of hot air from some 1,000+ poster's ass to the squall of idiocy is not appreciated.

well, i don't see the importance really of being at a board longer than anyone else. hell, the biggest group of lame-asses could be the oldest for all we know. they just didn't feel like going away . 'board age' has little to no relevance at all, and having it as the basis for any special treatment is insulting to any and all new members.

phpBBs allow to change the user name, it's even able to change in the default build - simply enable that in the Admin CP

As for user name changes - no - don't wanna have running an "A. Hitler" or "superf**er" around here. Anyway I think some people abuse that already too much;sure it is nice, but to have the name changed every few days won't make it special anymore

(Wow, five s in one post - including the signature )

The average user? No way. Like Surlent said, there would be a lot more offensive names and like Colleen said, it would be hard to track users.

Yes, the average user should be able to change names. Why should administrators have all these special abilities like lords of the manor or something? Better yet, forbid anyone, admins included, from changing their name.

It's far more easier to keep track of admin name changes than other user, simply because there's less of them.

It could be set up as a kind of merit, but neh. People would really exploit that feature to no end, which would suck. A simple pm gets the job done in a matter of minutes, and if no admins are online... well, something called patience exists.
