NO I'm not talking about back to school if thats what you are thinking .

Its... Hurricane Season .

Weve already had Alex... and right now, Bonnie is finishing, and Charlie is coming right up behind it. And thats all for now, so yeah... the season of weird weather has begun.

So... anybody got any hurricane stories to share?

I remember vaguely being caught in the middle of hurricane Andrew back in... what year was it... 94?(cant remember it that well) Nasty storm that was.

Being in in the Montreal, I never got the chance to "meet" one of those, but I've seen tornados.

Andrew was in '92...and why is this here? You would think it would be in the Gen Chat.

Bonnie is dead and Charley is gonna hit early tonight and into tomrrow. We're in a flood watch until Friday night, and they just threw in a Torando warning as well.

And why the after the part about Andrew. It's one of the worst hurricanes ever, and I was damn lucky that it went futher down south than it did......not lucky for those in Maimi-Dade, though.

Oh..and tomrrow is Friday the 13 and we get two freaking storms back to back!! Urg...

The weather will probably be extremely crappy for you over the next little while, Anya. But at least it's going to be hitting Tampa instead of Miami so that's good.

...Not so for Tampa, of course, but...

(Funny note - I was wondering whether the Devil Rays were playing at home or not when watching CNN today, so I flip channels... and see them playing in Boston on Sportsnet. )

It's coming through West Florida...where dad and grandma lives...and now the hurricane is making that north turn that no one thought it would....yea, that's more bad news for me.

Oh.

Hopefully things will be OK though... As long as everyone takes the necessary precautions, they should be all right.

Even though the hurricane is in the southern U.S., most of Maine is under a flood warning. I don't really have to worry though because my house is on top of a hill.

Tornados are everywhere in Kansas. (Except for some really really wierd reason never in my home town) I have never seen a hurricane though, but believe me a tornado is a little more scary, except the fact that hurricanes can cause tornados... Anyways good luck Anya wouldn't want to see you or your family get hurt by a hurricane.

The remnants of Tropical Strom Bonnie have came up here, and so we have alittle rain.. and a flood warning for Plymouth County, which is where I am. I hope no Floridians on the board are hurt...

It's always the same here on Long Island.

While the hurricane is in Cuba:
"OHNOES BY THE END OF TEH WEEK ITLL MAKE A HOLE IN USZZZ AND WELL BE LONG ISLANDS"

When the hurricane is at Florida:
"Hmm, it seems that when the hurricane reaches here, it will most likely knock over a lot of things. A lot."

When it gets here:
"Well folks, Tropical Storm [NAME] has just reached us, and it aint doin' jack shit. Seems we over-exaggerated again."

Repeat every year. THe only time there was a catastrophic one was when a hurricane actually broke through one of our barrier islands. And by broke through, I mean visible on a map "Oooh look, a new waterway" visible.

It's still pretty much off shore right now...got a few tails last night/early moring, but they said that it should get nasty again around six....while I'm at work...I swear, I might close up early...I don't care what others say, I don't want to drive in that mess, even if it's only a 20 minute drive from here to work.

At one point last night, the winds went from 14MPH to 39.

You know, I was wondering, why do storms evn HAVE names?? Like Isabel. Why not just call it 'the big bad storm'??

Anya, do you have some sort of refuge, like a bomb shelter for this kind of thing, or is it not that severe?

Because during hurricane season, there's too many (sometimes all at once) so you can't just call it by one name or what have you.

Nope. I'm just gonna go outside with my kite and hopefully the wind will carry me to work. No, really, I've been through worse, head on hurricanes, this one is coming from the westside of Florida (I'm on the south). We're still gonna get some shit from it, but it's been worse.

Just heard on the news literally 1 minute ago this hurricane is a "category 4" with 165 mph wind, which could likely cause "extreme structural damage." Just thought I'd announce that.
