1.5 = You mean a beta of 2, or am I just missing something?

I'm sure some companies are REALLY looking forward to releasing patches for unsupported (yet popular) games.

Who doesn't? I mean, people like to have to find patches and apply them. And the developers like to make patch for their projects.

Well if it doesn't work correctly, just use a system restore point.

Developers also don't like to have to go back to a 2-year old game and look at the source code to figure out what to patch.

Not sure how many games will have problems but we'll see. At worst fan sites will post user-made workarounds.

Indeed. Like how Westwood released a patch for Command and Conquer: Tiberian dawn Windows version (which was released 1996-1997). Win XP didn't like how C&C handled network, so the patch just pracitcally shut the network down for the game.

But now, EA killed Westwood so...

You can bet that games like The sims and newer ones like Doom3 will work well. If a widespread game stops working...

And oh, isn't that link to the English version of the SP2?

I'm going to do what most sensible people are doing. Wait it out until the damage assesment comes in. Then wait for them to smooth it out until it's acceptable.

You should be just fine without it for now as long as you have all other updates.

Forgot about the auto-download. Don't have that with Win98.

Usually you get a notification when something auto-downloads unless you turned them off.

It's always nice to avoid having to run to Windows Update every now and then though.

ME is so so buggy. I'd choose Win2000 pro over all other Windows-based OSes.

But yeah, if this is vital, users will be notified via Windows Update.

I always forget to. I didn't update for 1 year now (before that, it was 2 years). An auto-updater would be great for me when I think of it.

Windows Update auto alerts on the desktop toolbar.

I don't have a version of Windows which does that. I wish I had one though.

98SE was fine. About as stable as you were going to get. ME was... well... a mistake. To put it nicely.
