The following post was recovered from the board crash, and will be edited in the future for various reasons. Yeah, I've heard some of you cry for ExGFX. I figured, maybe they aren't bright enough to make their own. Yes, that comment is a tad mean, but you will all like the purpose of this post: FREE ExGFX files! =O Yes, you heard me right, FREE! Well, kinda, you still gotta credit the creator, but that isn't hard. You put the name in the ending credits via the credits editor (Chelsea code, then Shift+F11 or the Bonus Menu from the Overworld Editor, or mention him/her for making some GFX in your readme.) Older "How To Use" guide, left up only for archivial purposes. To use: Rename the file to a blank ExGFX slot (ex: ExGFX80.bin). Place it in a directory named "ExGraphics" (without the quotes, of course), which is in the same directory of your hack (so if your hack was in a folder named smwhack, the ExGFX would go in smwhack/ExGraphics). Now, click the yellow mushroom to insert the ExGFX, and use the Super GFX Bypass to use the ExGFX in the desired level. Now, use the 16x16 tile editor to build a tileset, or use the included 16x16 data (new, dunno how it works). Simple! Newer, more detailed tutorial for ExGFX inserting How to use downloaded ExGFX from the Workshop 1) After downloading the pack, decompress the archive with WinZip, WinRAR, WinACE, PKUNZIP, StuffIt Expander, whatever you use. 2) Open up the directory you uncompressed the files to. You should have at least these files: graphics_name.bin Map16Page.bin Map16PageG.bin You may also have a pallette in .TPL format. 3) If you haven't already, create a folder in the same folder as your hack's ROM and name it "ExGraphics" (case sensitive). 4) Rename the file "graphics_name.bin" to "ExGFXxx.bin" where xx = a hexidecimal number from 80 to FFF 5) Put the "ExGFXxx.bin" file into the folder "ExGraphics" 6) Put the files "Map16Page.bin" and "Map16PageG.bin" into the same folder as your hack. 7) Open Lunar Magic and open your hack. 8) Go to whatever level you wish to use the graphics, like a blank "TEST" level, and clear ALL the objects in the level. 9) Insert the ExGFX by clicking the Yellow Mushroom in the toolbar. 10) Now open the "Super GFX Bypass" window by clicking "Tools" -> "Super GFX Bypass..." 11) Check off the graphics bypass option, then click the dropdown menu for FG3, and select the hexadecimal number you chose for your ExGFX. Click OK. 12) Now open the Map16 Tile Editor 13) Using up and down, go to the page you wish to isert your blocks, and hit F3. Click Yes. 14) You are now ready to build! Open up the Background Objects selector, and go to "Direct Access Map16" and open your page. If the GFX look funky, and you haven't hacked the pallettes, then you need to insert a pallette. Check the Lunar Magic help file for any additional info on Lunar Magic, or feel free to ask in the ExGFX Workshop topic at the top of this forum about any ExGFX inquiries. Contribution to the ExGFX cause: Yes, now YOU can help out your fellow hacker. How do you do this? When you see a set in the list of things-to-do that you have/want to make yourself, make it, remembering not to require pallette hacking, then post it with a shot from Lunar Magic's 8x8 Tile Editor showing the default pallette, and a shot of the 16x16 Tile Map Editor with all the blocks assembled (the naming format is: "name_of_set_editortype.png" as PNGs look clean) These images act as guides for the user, showing how the GFX in the file are set up, and what the results should look like thereafter. I will then add it, credit you, and you will show up in someone's game! =O Go here to the ExGFX! Here's the current list of requested sets: Name: Who's doing it Junkyard: JJ? Spaceship: JJ? Dessert World: Nobody SMB3 World 3: SMWExpert Chemical Plant: KT15 Graveyard: JJ Meta Juglira: Most likely KT15 Making a request: The main purpose of this topic is for requets for ExGFX! So, here's some guidelines: 1) Currently, I can only do Level BGs, by putting the GFX in at FG3's bank. I put the graphics in not to go with the in-game tileset, but to fit as much as possible into the area, so manual tile assembly via the 16x16 editor will be required for use. NEW: But there are people who can do other things as well, so you are no longer limited to this. 2) The request can be almost anything, as long as the tiles needed fit into a file with 4x8 16x16 tiles (or 8x16 8x8 tiles.) I may not have all the GFX needed to make your tileset, so if any supplmentary GFX and images are needed, please post them so I can get everything needed to make your file., Also, I do not prefer pallette hacking, so it will be made for a standard SMW pallette. NEW: Skateboarder11 can do pallette hacks, as well as pretty much all the other people contributing. If you want/don't want custom pallettes, please say so, or you might not get what you want! 3) No private requests: all requests will be posted here for the taking. They will be fufilled in the order they are posted, so hurry on up and post if you want a tileset! 4) No multiple requests please! It does take time to make a set, so if you want several sets, ask for the one you need the most first, and wait patiently for it to be completed! Besides: Originally posted by Imajin There are people that contribute to this cause that do most other things, including pallette hacking. Currently, they are: Kirby All The Way, Juggling Joker, Geno, Skateboarder11, and Imajin. If you want to join this "team," post some of your work from the 16x16 editor. Pixel artists are greatly welcomed! If people like what they see, then by all means make stuff and add them in! Email the stuff to Coby, and he'll upload it to the script (maybe sometime in the future, we can have public uploads, but I don't think Coby's willing to do that...) Coby's "How To Contribute" documentation: First of all, you take the bin file, the map16 data and the MW3 Palette (you can export the palette using LM) and ZIP THEM UP, name the zip accordingly: filename-palettecode-yourcode.zip THEN, take pictures of your 8x8 and 16x16 page and make two PNGs out of them. (And I mean REAL PNGs, not just a BMP renamed to PNG. Does anyone want a HAND-DRAWN palette hacking desert? I really feel creative right now, and I'll eat a plastic boot heel if I don't get hand-drawn requests. In short, I'm going to make a hand-drawn desert. |

Alright, I'll save the poor little antique boot and take the request. Just a note: the whole thing will only use ONE palette! w00t! I just noticed something. Who's doing the requested dessert world? Should I do it too? It will have top-quality ice cream! Nah, save that for April Fools' Day... (edited by Geno on 03-18-04 03:54 PM) |

Not to mention messy palettes, missing tiles, and garbled parts. |
