Hello all,

We'll be conducting phase two of our network upgrades on Monday, August
9th, 2004 starting around 9 PM EST.

This phase consists of upgrading our routers processing engine which also
means we have to completely reconfigure the router from scratch. This
should actually not take too long assuming all goes well, but more often
than not some issues crop up which take time to resolve. Hopefully it won't
take longer than 30 minutes. However, i'd suggest that you plan for atleast
an hour of downtime, perhaps not constant, but on and off connectivity
periods while the upgrades are being performed.

After the router upgrade is complete we'll enable the Gigabit LAN. If you
recall about a week or so ago we replaced our switches with gigabit enabled
switches however they are still running on the old FastEthernet LAN. We
will switch that over to the Gigabit connections that evening aswell. Fiber
optics are incredible!

After Monday evenings changes everything should run much more smoothly and
we'll be nearly 95% done with our upgrades. We're still waiting on a new
line from our backbone provider to be installed which will complement our
current main line. This will allow us to double our available bandwidth
which leaves plenty of room for DoS attacks so they should not affect the
network as certain attacks have done in the past.

After this second line is installed we'll need to setup a load balancing
type scenario over the two lines, equal-cost routing to be exact, which
really shouldn't cause any downtime at all. This final leg of our upgrades
will hopefully be completed by the end of this comming week and I don't
plan to make any formal announcement as it's not expected to affect
connectivity. For those who are extremely curious, assuming we get the line
installed on schedule, we should complete this final step as early as
Wednesday afternoon but most likely by Friday.

Thank you all for your patience and I hope everyone can enjoy a lag-free
and trouble-free network!

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Thanks,

Mark

Eh, Trapster it's affecting the IRC network. Not the fifty pounds hosting.

The IRC downtime happens when i'm asleep, so I won't notice it.
