The US men's basketball team sucks. There I said it.

They're a bunch of self centered assholes, who want all the show for themselves.

That being said, why the fuck is Emeka Okafor on the team? Why isn't Shaquille O'thebestplayeralivecurrently Neal on the team? Where is the god damn patriotism? If you're picked to go, I do not see where not going even crosses the mind.

wtf, they piss me off.

As someone from Connecticut, I can tell you Okafor deserves to be there at least as much as Allen "Ballhog" Iverson or any of the other people on the team.

Anyway, I say it serves Captain Ballhog and the Egomaniacs right. Now maybe they'll get their asses in gear and realize it isn't going to be as easy as they thought.

Still, I find myself wishing for the days of the original Dream Team. You know, a who's who of Hall of Famers of the day (Christ, Clyde "The Glide" Drexler was like the #12 guy on that team), who put their egos in check long enough to accomplish a common goal of not merely winning a gold medal, but demolishing all competition. Naturally, that in and of itself will be harder now than it was 12 years ago (Thanks partially to the fact that an increasing number of NBA players are foreign born), but Jesus. This was no mere loss, it was an embarassment.

I was too lazy to look up other college players on the team, so I just picked Emeka.

Don't worry though, I know Emeka is good, but he's only played against other college players, not the best that a country has to offer.

(OOC: But how about Ryan Gomes, xD. I remeber hearing Calhoun's confrence when PC beat them? "I f(BLOOP)'d up, okay? I f(BLOOP)'d up."

And they won today? Who hit the buzzer beater? Mr. Ball Hog.

I hate Allen Iverson.

ALSO: Poor Ryan Gomes. He happened to come out of (I think) the same class (2001) as Holy Cross High School star Mark Konecny. Basically, everyone drooled over Konecny and Gomes got completely lost in the shuffle.

Two months later, Konecny dropped out of Syracuse due to academic trouble (It's a bit more complicated than that, but suffice to say I wasn't surprised at the news, having gone to high school with him), and Gomes went off to a junior college before ending up in Providence and basically showing everyone who the real gem of that class was.

Gomes went to the high school about three minutes from my house. I'd like to meet him, just to ask him how he feels about the Waterbury paper always calling him "Our guy" or something similar, when they didn't give a **** about him a few years ago.

As for Emeka, while it's true he hasn't gone up against the world's best just yet, people had questions about him before he started at UConn, too, and he grew into arguably the best player in the college game. I'm confident that he'll do at least well enough to silence any doubters at the pro/olympic level as well.

And I still hate Allen Iverson.

Yeah, I don't like him either. And anyways, that's pretty cool about Gomes. He's big over here (RI). I went to Waterbury the other day to visit my grandparents.

I'm not sure, of the geography at all, but they live on Joy road. (Never really did know much about the place).
And wow, my dad went to HC high school. That's pretty cool.

Yeah, well at least Iverson went unlike the others who all pulled out with excuses (...MARRIAGE?!? Oh, for the love of...)

I so wish Canada qualified. We might never have a better chance of beating the US.

Yeah, he has that going for him, but what does he fuck up with? Missing a meeting. Not a game, not practice. A meeting.

Somehow I don't think people are that concerned with the "suspension" at the moment...

Some excuses I can understand, but there's some that are just... um... yeah. The marriage stuff, some guys saying that they're "tired"...

Yeah, I'm not too irked at it, so much as I am with everyone else.

Everyone else as in all the players that are good enough to be on the team, but don't go.

WHERE IS THE PATRIOTISM, ASSHOLE?

But as for why most won't go, the fear of dying for their country all in the name of a game is why. If you can tell me what is at stake besides bragging rights, then I'll shut up.

Dying? Like terrorist attack dying?

I can almost see that, with it being at Greece, and nothing against Greecians, but I doubt the security will be stellar...but what about the thousands of other athletes that went?

Yep, that kind.

As for the rest that did, all I can do is guess that they just wanted to play the game. Play your hearts out guys.

Eh it's just one game. It's kinda funny how they almost lost the game to Germany and Germany didn't even qualify for the Olympics I think. So they need to get back into it. I'm not trippin' to much about it though .

...They're going to look MIGHTY stupid when there's no terrorist attacks at the games.

(I'm not saying there WILL be or anything, but when everyone expects an attack... it doesn't happen.)

Bella is right. It was just one game. It is not like they lost while in the olypics, allthough that would be pretty funny sine they are supposed to be unbeatable...

We shall see.

Apparently they beat Turkey today but some of their tactics got booed by the crowd. Won't be long now.

I like Brown's idea. Make the ball go through Duncan every time, and play tough d.

Good tactic but it's slightly flawed given how the closer you are to the basket, the better your chances of getting it into the net.

I'd like to see how well they'd do if their main instruction was "shoot".
