1.Being a noob isn't which level you have. It's your iq that matters, like if you're any dumber than a shoelace, you're a noob. Not even BOTHERING to look if there's an appropriate forum for this, then you're a noob.
2. Yes, this topic is called Q&A for newbies!, but it's the SMW hacking forum.

This post wasn't completely flaming mikepjr, it's also something useful:
What to do if mario chooses a completely different path than programmed, get's stuck, and can only enter an infinite bonus game? for more info plz look at the OverWorld problems topic I posted.

I have a question. How can you change the castle entrance level? I want to change Lemmy's castle entrance to Morton's castle entrance, because Lemmy's castle entrance has a dark background and I want Morton's castle to have it too.

Try going here and downloading the SMW entrance level repointer program. That should help a bit, since you could try repointing both entrances to the same level.

I'm not sure if SMWELR supports repointing such settings. However, the "Use blue or black background?" seems to be based on the level number. Try moving it to some other level numbers.

Ok, so I'll just have to change the level number. Thanks a lot!

Edit: I have another problem. How can you change overworld pipes' destination? I want a pipe to go from the main area to Forest of Illusion.

Here's how to do it step by step.

1. In the Overworld editor, click on the Ghost House without the star thing. This is also called Layer 1 16 X 16 Editor Mode.

2. Select one of the pipes in the overworld and click on it.

3. Now click the pipe on the toolbar thing.

4. It'll give you two options. Exit Index to use and Destination Exit Index. For Exit Index, select any of the overworld options.Exit Index is the pipe Mario has to go to. Destination Exit, right now there's no current way to put the pipe inside the forest itself but you can put it outside. Place the pipe near the forest and select another Overworld option. The Destination Exit is where Mario exits from the pipe.

Before I forget, if one of the options in the Star and Pipe Level Tile Settings doesn't take you where you want, just keep on experimenting.

So, there's no way to put a pipe inside the Forest?

Yes you can. Just place a pipe there like normal. Which map it originally was on doesn't matter.

I didn't to want to make a thread for this, so I posted here.

Blktool is nifty. But, sometimes it sucks, such as:

(*) There is no block info file, it uses the registry
(*) Some words don't show up(especially The offsets.)
(*) There is no "Retry" and "Undo".
(*) When you remove a block, it scrolls all the way up the list.
(*) The add block window is hard to add.
(*) The edit block data could be more easy to find blocks.
(*) and make a data file for that too.

Is anybody planning to fix these probs?
Or is blktool sourceless?

I started hacking way after blktool's release, and I think Jonwil's HP is broken now.

Please tell me the answer...

(Before you ask yes I have patch dw3 with it but nothing happen alway the smb3 music is played)

Edit:While I'm here someone should change thread name because the therm newbies is not very attractive so many poeple(like me) don't read it the first time, using a more friendly therm such as newcommer or beginner should make more poeple read it

Sorry. I read the FAQ's both here and on Lunar Magic itself and failed to find what I am looking for. I'm beginning to think doing something like this is simply impossible. Though it's still worth a try.

I'm looking for a way to make a wall that Mario walks INFRONT of. ( You know, usually when Mario meets a wall. He can't simply just run infront of it. He has to find a way around it ) By a wall I mean land. Like..well..

Do you remember the first water-based level? Theres these things in the background ( But isn't the background image itself ) and ontop of those are green and white checkered pieces of land that kinda resemble the top of a mushroom? You can walk on the top of the land, but beneath it is simply walked infront of, as if it doesn't even exist.

How could I go about making something be so where Mario walks infront of it? I'm interested in making a raised piece of land, but I want Mario to walk infront of it, and only be able to walk ontop of it. Any idea how? P.S: I'm completely new to this, about... 2 hours into it. So try to be... explanative... about it.

Thanks.

Also, I seem to be having trouble with "Bullet machines"? The things that shoot Bonzai Bill's, I think thats what they're called. I don't know how to set it where it'll shoot bullets.

Thats nice and all. But I don't think my Lunar Magic is the same or something. At this FAQ, it speaks of "Click on the mario head" or "Click on the koopa shell" but theres nothing of that. Theres only tabs. No icons. I also can't find this... "Vertical scroll at will" choice. I downloaded LM from this website, I don't understand why I can't find half the things you people talk about, even after searching all of the tabs.

Which version are you using? The mari ohead is in the row of little buttons right below the file/edit/level/etc bar. Also, to make the bullet bill shooter actually shoot, you need to place a bullet bill shooter sprite. To do that, either click the koopa shell and yoshi button on the bar, in that order, then move to the generators tab in the sprite inserter dialog, and select bullet bill from the list (you may have to scroll down a bit). If the buttons aren't there, find the shell equivalent under the edit menu, and the sprite inserter under the editors menu.

What version are you using? If you don't know, pull up Lunar Magic, click on the Help menu option, and select About Lunar Magic.

FYI, the current version is 1.62.

Well, I'm encountering alot of problems. I can assure you none of it is in the FAQ's. Problems with tiles that Mario can walk infront of, Problems with the bushes... Plenty of things. Is there anyone I can add on MSN/Yahoo for help? I'll try not to bother you too much about it. If I do get annoying, just block me. I'd rather do that then to continue asking questions here, and hoping to get a response sometime in the next hour ( Understanding the fact that you people can't just sit around on the forums all day and answer peoples questions )

Thanks.

P.S: I'll start by downloading the latest LM.

EDIT: For reference, I am using Version 1.41. Which is the only version on this site. I'll goto the FuSoYa website now.

2nd EDIT: I've downloaded 1.62 and am using it now. I'll try re-reading over the FAQ's to perhaps find the answers to my questions, but I highly doubt problems like mine are listed. For instance...

I made a cliffside. But Mario walks infront of it ( He's supposed to ) but whenever he shoots a fireball or something, it doesn't bounce -- It only goes straight. It's the same with bouncing koopa's and Star power-ups. They all simply...hover, and slide forward, the animation not even playing. But they do what they're supposed to when they're not infront of the cliff. They start bouncing, the animation works how it's supposed to, and all this. Mario can walk infront of the cliff, and even jump around just fine. But nothing else can. Theres also a problem with the bushes. I can walk infront of them ( As supposed to ) But I can also walk ONTOP of them ( NOT how I wanted it to work ) If anyone can help, that'd be great...

3rd EDIT:

I almost forgot to include this, but uh... I've tried the Bullet bill sprite. It only shoots right when the cannon comes into screen, not shooting anymore after that. Isn't it supposed to shoot every 7 seconds, or something like that? I could've sworn I've played other "Hack"s that had bullet shooters shoot more then once, and not just randomly shoot right when the shooter comes onto screen.

you can add me, my mail is Badluckman@hotmail.com,I like to help the other with ASM and such, but I don't know sprite ASM and HDMA at least for now...
and for the bullet bill the one that shoot more than one time is the bullet bill shooter in special command and generator section of the add sprite

Is there a way I can have more then one color pallette? For instance. I made a level thats based in the night-time, so I fiddled with the Hex color thing and made the ground and enemies and such darker, to fit into the overall darkness. But I think it's going to look like that on every single level now. Is there a way to set it to where it'll be that pallette ONLY for that level? ( And any other I may choose in the future )?
