You might want to provide a little more information about your group. More likely to attract members that way.

(Oh, and the replacement URL there seems to be a website with porn pics that have had the people in them removed O_o)

I think we all know what a ROM hacking group is. Where are you going with it? Who are you hoping to get? What will you focus on? What kind of recources do you have? Why would someone join?

Meh hate to be the downer with this post... but... everyone and their sister wants to start a ROM hacking group. Soliciting for members in this fashion is a bad idea on so many levels...

People with any sort of skill (ie, the people you would want to have in your group) won't sign up for something if advertised in this way. Threads like this come up all the time, and people who have been around for longer than a week know not to sign up for every single one.

You end up pissing people off with the spamming ("hey come join my group! This is the site!") which will end up alienating your target audience. It took a whole whooping 20 minutes for this post to be recognized as spam and edited appropriately.... that (along with the replies) should be a hint that it wasn't received very well by this particular rom hacking community.

If you want to be serious... get in with some friends (hook up with them privately) and build up a foundation and reputation. Once you're out and known, then the members will come to you (like in the case of DES and TEK).

The site can be reached by going into Ringodoggie' profile - better said, homepage entry there
A board alone doesn't guarantee anything.

I'm registered on Dragon Eyes Studios, the board itself is nice, but only the pure 'core' of ROM hackers post there; so usually it is more important to develop a good site than simply setting up an AcmlmBoard, a board without a site is useless ... imho.

ROM-hacking is very nice, but it is extremely time consuming; so if you doesn't know how to ROM-hack properly (as for me, I doesn't; using an editor like LM is mostly easy; except the knowledge with hex editors I don't know anything, neither pointers, ASM or how to alter SNES RAM addresses), you won't be able to drag people to your page. That simply requires more time. Unless you don't have at least a smaller project, like a translation of an unknown RPG (must no be a famous one in another language, but "unique") or some minor projects, this is also no good advertisement for your ROM hacking group.
And as for the plain board, try to replace the board banner, it doesn't fit at all and it is simply ugly in its design an the choice of colours; I'm just honest

Couldnt've said it better myself. Anyone can pick up a board and start it... and everyone wants to run their own message board. The thing that draws users isn't spamming on other boards, it's having a site that's worth going to. There's a few exceptions here and there, but typically, that's the general rule.

Being hosted on a free server doesn't help matters much either. Lycos banner adds covered like 10% of my screen when I checked those boards.

A romhacking group would be nice if it entailed some sort of collaborative effort - the likes of which I have rarely seen in the Rom hacking community. A good friend of mine recently quit the scene because no one was willing to work together and lots of crappy hacks were being made.

Ok!

I found out about that problem myself too. But, on the other hand, now I'm working together with two other people on Epic Battle - Impala Kart Courses. Though I have to do all the hacking, they "Only" do the graphics. I would love to work together with some really great ROM hacker, that way I would learn a lot faster. Now I have to find out all things by myself, small steps to succes.

Yep, that's been my experience too. There is too much bitching and back stabbing in this ROM Hacking "community". (I put quotes around community as I don't really believe it's much of a community, it's too fractured to be much of a community)

It's not much of a "Community" I'll admit, but It's nice to have a hobby to take the vileness out of my life, and all you great people to learn from, and interact with occasionally. Though some people may scoff at the idea that there is a community going one here, or elsewhere, I say a community is what you can make of it yourself. If you think it's a community, then it is. If you think it's not, then it's not. If you contribute, help others out, and generally make a good name for yourself, perhaps your group will take off.

It will take more than a message board I'm afraid. Just ask Tony from TEK, he does alot to keep his idea of a community going, he still does, and he does it right. Take a good long look at everything TEK has (or doesn't have) look at what makes it tick, what it needs, and what makes it shine. A good host to start with will work wonders for your site. Erk Dog offers hosting for as little as 5 dollars a month (I beleive). Look at all that would bring to your project, more space, etc. Nobody wants to gather on a second rate free server, such as Lycos, or Angelfire, or Geocities. It cheapens the experience. BADLY. It's ok for personal web pages, but not a large scale project, such as you wish to launch. It's just way too restrictive, and will continue to be so and worsen, if you do gather more members.

I would like to see more groups up and running, yours included. But do it right. Put your heart and soul into it, and really work on it. If it's what you really want, then you will get it right eventually, but it's not going to be easy, and you will never get there without trial and error.

Thank you Chickenlump.

You could asked to be hosted by a romhacking group as well. Community is something so hard to work for, but they can be built. Chickenlump said mostly what I think and I try my best to make it what it is. If I keep forgetting to pay the domain name it's not going to help (Which I just renewed, be back up in a bit). If you need help Ringo, PM me, you were a TEKHacks member and you disappeared. I wouldn't count that as a good track record. I would gladly have you back or help you in someway with your endeavor. Good luck with what you do.

You know what, I changed my mind. I'll just forget about the idea for a community (too much work). Can somebody close this please?
