This simply pisses me off. I've lived here all my life, and it angers me when big city dick holes yell about my town. I can piss on it all I want, because I've lived here my entire life. I've lived in the ghetto areas, I've been attacked by crack heads, I've gotten in bar fights. I know it as well as life. It is a dingy hole in the Earth, but that is for us, as its citizens to say.

I want to kill Conrad Black right about now.

(Edit - That loooooong URL was stretching the page horizontally, so I fixed it.)

Yuck. Never been to Oshawa but if you're going to say it's a dingy hole, I'll take your word for it.

See, nobody would EVER write an article like that for LaSalle... considering we're 1/2 of the PM's riding.

I should mention that that article is EXTREMELY one-sided.

We have a very active arts, historical and heritage communities. I'm a member of a fairly large writer's circle. And actually a lot of the town is nice. For 150'000 people, there are only about 4 circles of bad in the city. Nonquon, the West Zone, Downtown and the South End. And they're desolate, but there is still stuff to do. The article never mentioned that there are very proud and active Polish, Ukrainian, Korean, and Chinese communities in the city, nor that we have a 150 year old marvel of architecture and art, being the Anglican church. We have the oldest standing high school in a 100km radius, and an even older school.

Yes, that's the power of the asshole with grammar skills. The problem is that people don't learn to appreciate what the places that they've lived all their life have to offer. Here in Coventry, they say there's nothing at all to do, they say we're a backwater town with nothing special about us.

Well, actually they're right, there really is nothing to do here. But guess who said that? Someone who lives in Coventry. So write a counter article for that piece of trash that they had the nerve to post online. Show them what a person from Oshawa can do, especially when someone has the nerve to insult his hometown.

No, its worse, it was in an internationally circulated news paper.

The Toronto Star.

Aright, so submit a counter article to that newspaper. If people read the first Oshawa article, then they're bound to read something written in reply to it.

Then why I hadn't heard about it before?

Articles tend to be one-sided. And it's intresting how he tries to call it "the real GTA city"

But really, how high is the crime/drug rate there? I want to know that from somebody who lives there.

There is not black and white, even when it comes to towns.

Although distributed internationally, it is mostly available through special orders for Canadian minority populaces in other countries (when my friend was in the Ukraine, he purchased the paper in a Canadian store while in Kiev and Odessa).

And when they compare it to GTA, it isn't Grand Theft Auto, they are referring to the Greater Toronto Area. A designation around the Mega-City which has existed since before that game ever came around.

Without reading the article, all I can say is that even the greatest places have their bad spots. Hoboken, New Jersey is an excellent example...get about a mile away from the Stevens Institute of Technology and...yikes, to say the least.

I'm not trying to be an asshole here, but didn't you say a while back that you thought that the city should be destroyed in a war and then have the ground salted?

Or were you just really pissed off then?

I was unimaginably pissed off, but I still believe that this town is full of bad memories for its citizens, the outside world won't witness what really happens in this place. If you came here, you wouldn't be attacked while walking downtown. Tourists generally don't go to the sleaziest places in town at 4 in the morning, or hang around in the ghetto areas.
