Unless of course you've got a problem with the living conditions of the animals used to provide eggs and milk, which I do... Not to mention soy products are far healthier... But you know. Veganism is stupid. Right. No reason at all. |

That's not really a good enough reason imho.. how much do YOU know about how the cow or chicken that produced that one egg lived. If you for example lived near a small farm where they took really good care of the animals, would you eat those eggs? No? STUPID.

Name me one unbiased study proving that soy products are healthier and that all animals live in absolute squallor.

There's no unbiased study, but the meat packing industry's like a stereotype. NOT ALL industrial butchers force livestock to live in horrible conditions, but SOME DO. Movies like The Meatrix are overly one-sided, you can't stop people from expressing their views and occasionally a few things like that are gonna pop up. Personally I'm in favor of treating animals correctly and letting them live healthy lives, only to die of old age. That way, the moral qualms of vegetarianism are gone, so moral vegetarians don't need to worry anymore, as no animals are getting slaughtered anymore, and the people who are vegetarians for health reasons can still do it for their health reasons. Not only that, but for every cow killing story there's a grain harvester story... Both sides have their hypocrisies. That was actually where my inital problem with being a vegetarian was, if I was gonna do it for moral reasons then why would I ignore all of the other humanity-related deaths in animals? I still don't really know the answer... |

Originally posted by Grey I understand what you mean completely. You can word any arguement in such a way that most people will believe you. That, and you can inspire them to change their morals/actions. Take a look at Maddox for example. He puts a unique humor in all his articles, that a lot of his fan-boys will agree with anything he says without giving it any real thought or research on their own part. As for me, poor treatment to animals or not, I'm going to eat meat. Does that make me a bad person? Let's just say it does. There. I'm a bad person. I don't care, I like meat. Nobody is perfect right? So why bother trying? |

Originally posted by EvillerLegion Compare the nutrition information labels on milk and soy milk. (I did.) Soy milk has a LOT more vitamins and minerals in it. Compare soy burgers to hamburgers. Soy burgers have no grease, 1/5 the saturated fat, and, depending on what brand you buy, can have as much or even more protein, on top of the added vitamins. Soy dogs to hot dogs. Soy eggs to real eggs. Tofu to turkey. Vegetatian products are geared towards people who are trying to eat healthier, not to mention the vegetarians, who need the added protien and vitamins because they're not getting them from meat. So they're pumped as full of nutrients as they can be, while being low in cholesterol, fat, and all that other nasty kill-you stuff. Normal meat products are geared towards Joe Nobody, the everyday North American with the pot belly who barbeques and sits in his EZBoy, eating cheetos until he falls asleep watching the game. (NO, I am not calling anyone here a Joe Nobody.) But they're manufactured to sell to people who like the taste and like the texture and the grease and all the shit in it, who don't care about how healthy they are. The kind of people who eat at McDonalds. Those kinds of people. (edited by Shards on 08-05-04 12:04 PM) (edited by Shards on 08-05-04 12:08 PM) |

Moddox was what actually got me interested in vegetarianism. He said he had no problem with people who do it for religious or health reasons, so I decided to start looking up what those health reasons were. Apparently what Shards says is true; soy products really are pumped with more nutrients so that vegetarians can compensate for what the loss of meat gives. Still doesn't make soy milk not taste like sand, though... Though I must admit, chocolate soy milk is quite good. |

My mother is a vegetarian, not a vegan. But she does drink a lot of soy milk simply because she likes it more than regular milk. She still eats cheese or what have you when she wants to. She also pops about 3 pills a day, drinks two different powders and is still seeing a doctor about what vitamins and shit she should be taking. OooOoo so healthy. Oh, and she's still fat.
