There is vegetarian alternatives that tastes almostl like meat, I know as I tried them.

But you shouldn't eat thoose alternatives plain, you must add something to it for it being good... usually.

And I still prefer the real meat taste.

The only alternative version of meat I like are veggie dogs. To me, they taste better than actual hot dogs.

(And it's made from better stuff too. The ingredients of hot dogs are...well....yeahhhhh)

I just recently took up Veganism... I was vegitarian back in March, gave it up eventually out of boredom, but I'm really gonna try this time.

As you may have guessed, I'm not doing it for the moral issues.

I'm actually really enjoying it, I had a 100% meat or meat-product free fallafel pita today and it was YUMMAY.
I'm also giving away my leather collection ($200's worth) to a close friend (whom I know will give it back if I fail... >.>) and everything. I've even got the vegetable shortening fat-free soap.

Well, I'm not exactly a Christian anymore....

And Shards reminded me that soap isn't as innocent as you would think it is.

I'm hardly a Christian, remember, I may believe in God, but it is merely that I'm not allowed to hold my own faith until I leave my parent's home. That's why I'm supposed to have a picture of Mary, Jesus and my patron Saint (I can't remember who right now...) as well as a blessed crucifix and a rosery.

Actually, my friend introduced me to Quorn. I was so surprised, even if it is a strange fungus, it really does taste incredibly close to chicken. I'd like to see other meat substitutes, Quorn is amazingly close. My only complaint with it is that it's a touch on the dry side, but the taste is almost spot on. I had a sandwich of it, I really liked it.

Now that I think about it, the moral reasons aren't very solid for me, since private meat owners treat their livestock very well. I know a guy who lives on a dairy farm, he treats his cows like friends, but he still eats them when they die, it's just that he makes sure they die peacefully, and that they live healthy lives (he has to, they're all milk cows). I guess I'd do it more for health reasons. I'll end up picking up supplements and stuff to make sure I don't have any deficiencies, this really is an experiment for me.

Hehe. Nothing is as innocent as you would think it is anymore! Kya ha ha!

.....I'm done.

Anyvay. Yeah, the hardest part of Veganism is definately that it's not even a diet change... You have to change your whole lifestyle.

I will *never* give up eating meat so long as I have teeth!

There are plenty of fruits and vegetables that I like (some of them I'd eat constantly if I could), but meat is easily my favorite food.
Just as long as it's cooked properly... I can't stand it when meat isn't cooked enough.

Ive heard that the part of your brain that tastes meat is the same part of your brain that gives you sexual pleasure. If thats true it really would explain alot...

Ill never be a vegetarian, I just like meat too much. As for the amount of meat I eat it comes pretty close to the level of junk food and sweets but its still just shy of beating it.

I really want to be a vegetarian but everytime I try to go without meat I always cave in pretty soon afterwards.. I know it sounds weird but it makes me feel guilty to eat meat, even though I do so all the time.

My girlfriend was a vegetarian for several years. Then, she just...wasn't anymore. I have no idea why, really.

Myself, I'm not really big into fruit or (Especially) vegetables, which basically kills any chance I may have of being one.

Vegetarianism and veganism aren't the same things. And what gets changed by you giving away your collection of leather articles? The animals used to produce them are still dead XD

If someone were to lay out a platter with durian fruit and noodles and the other was a rotting piece of pork, which would you choose? Yeah, that's right.

So the best of both worlds:

- Durian fruit and noodles
- OR juicy, tender, steak

Hmm tough decision. Wait a minute, if you weren't vegitarian, why not have both! Yeah that sounds good.

I couldn't be a vegitarian either but sometimes I don't want to eat meat. I couldn't give it up unless I was dying or got heart disease or something . I could eat less of it but not give it up entirely.

Veggies I'm not too much into. I only like a select few so that just closes up my selections but I love fruit

I was actually raised pescetarian (mainly ovo-lacto vegetarian plus some fish every now and then). My parents kept a variety of good, nutritious food around, so I was always healthy and never felt deprived, and I never got curious about meat, either. I gave up fish for about a 5-year period because I felt guilty about not being a "real" vegetarian, but then I figured that because fish have such primitive brains, it's extremely unlikely that they give a rat's ass when somebody pulls them out of the water, so why deprive myself of an excellent (and yummy) source of protein on moral grounds? I'm still a pescetarian because my diet works fine and dandy for my purposes (staying healthy and lean, getting enough protein (>100g a day) to rebuild my muscles).

Though I abstain from red meat and poultry because I'm personally bothered by the idea of eating it, I don't think there's anything inherently bad or evil about eating meat. As was already mentioned, humans are omnivores, so we need a certain amount of protein in order to be healthy, and meat works well for that purpose because its protein is easily used by our bodies. (Large herbivores, like horses, can get enough protein from plants. That doesn't work so well for us.) My beloved cats are obligate carnivores, so they require meat-based food. My main beef (pun intended) is with the cruelty inherent in factory farming, which is where most meat (and eggs and dairy) come from. (For the record, I buy the vast majority of our eggs and dairy from small farms. This is expensive, but it's worth it to me.) I'd be very happy to see the animal-based agricultural industry shift to more humane practices, which would be good for the consumers as well. Well-cared-for animals really do make better eggs and milk (organic or small local farm skim tastes more like 2% - it's light-years better than the standard watery crap), and according to meat connoisseur friends, they taste better, too. For example, Argentine beef, which comes from free-roaming cattle who feed on grass, is a delicacy.

They say iron is the source of some red color or something... You say that you get low on iron when you stop eating meat... So... Does that mean that vegetarians are more "white" than regular people?
