(Note, if a thread like this already exists, would someone mind showing me it?)

So what do you all think about vegetarianism and veganism? Myself, I figured that since a close friend of mine is a vegetarian I'd try it myself just to see what it's like, but it's hard because my family usually eats nothing but meat. She gave me plenty of information on the subject, and I think I can do it if I really try. As far as the issue itself goes, I'm not a fan of the whole meat packing industry because of the way they treat the animals, but I'd be happy eating meat so long as the animal that I'm eating got to live out its full life. It's much easier to see an animal die of old age than to know it got slaughtered. But I'm not doing it for moral reasons, really. I'm more doing it because it's supposed to be a very healthy lifestyle IF YOU DO IT RIGHT. I just don't quite know the right way to do it, so I was also wondering if any of you had any advice for me?

And yes, before anyone tries, I've seen the Maddox article on this. It made me laugh.

I don't care if someone is a vegetarian, as I have a few friends who are. I'll be honest, I couldn't do it. Meat is such a common food...

no matter how healthy you eat as a vegetarian, you'll eventually run into lack of B12 and iron supplies in your blood. I only recommend it to people who want to do it for health reasons, such as lowering their cholesterol or blood pressure.
Don't do it out of moral reasons, you're just a dumbfuck imo then.

According to my religious beliefs, eating meat is allowed. If you choose to be vegetarian or vegan, knock yourself out, just don't get in my way when I want to eat a burger.

There's this little miracle called "vitamins" Sofie.

I tried it before, it's hard at first but you get used to it.

But after a couple weeks, I went to Denny's and saw the t-bone steak breakfast. I caved like you wouldn't imagine.

I can see that a lot of vegetarians do it for moral reasons, but honestly, it's not going to stop anything. If you wanted things changed, you'd have to get EVERYONE to stop eating meat and that is just never going to happen.

All the videos that PETA puts out that depict cruelty to animals are just propaganda. They don't depict how they're treated in the states and they're usually from some third world country. Most countries have strict regulations concerning the well being of livestock and the rules are strictly enforced.

" I'm more doing it because it's supposed to be a very healthy lifestyle IF YOU DO IT RIGHT."

Very true. Like I said before, you can always take vitamins and supplements to make up for anything you wont get from abstaining from meat.

If you have to pick between food and vitamins, you'll pick food.
I've been a vegetarian for over 8 years, btw, and my doctor told me it's very hard to prevent some of the side effects, such as low iron reserves in your blood, and low bloodpressure.

You have to be a member to see it. And ugh! It's another message board that's called a BBS. Message boards are not BBS'.

Sofie, if you don't mind me asking, what are your reasons for being a veg?

I like chicken... its better than beef... although steak is good too. I also like vegetables... they are good too.

I dont see any harm in going vegetarian... Its how they want to eat, so Im not going to interfere. Just let me eat my chicken in peace.

I prefer to use my teeth the way they were meant to be used.

Oh, and soy products taste disgusting, and I can't stand to drink soy milk especially for a long period afterwards.

Tofu's a-okay though.

I like vegetables but I can't see myself giving up meat. Not a huge meat fan but I like my burgers and veal and chicken.

Occasionally I'll just have a salad as a meal but that's not an everyday thing.

I have been considered being a Vegetarian for health and moral reasons, but I like meat too much for giving it up. Besides i'm not fond of "green things" (thought it's about being used too it too )

I maybe limit my meat usage, but not stopping with it completly.

Humans evolved to be omnivores, our bodies and BRAINS most importantly need proteins and acids that are in meats. Our jaw muscles are actually strengthened through the chewing of meat (believe it or not, it is an evolutionary aspect that has to do with mating, I don't quite understand it...). The protein from meat also makes people stronger. If someone were to have a balanced diet that is exclusively vegetarian, and takes health suppliments, during a work out schedule. A person who eats meat will actually do better on the work out schedule than the vegetarian.

Although I'm not opposed to vegetarians, I just wouldn't be one myself. The Bible states that God created animals to be used as man pleases. So there is no moral qualm for me.

Yes, that is one way of looking at it, beacuse Jesus does teach compassion. Which I adhere to. Now, if you look at that, that is a Jewish belief, love towards animals. As a Gentile, I have no reason to follow that. The entire concept of Kosher and other ideas along those lines are in fact, not Christian, so unless you are a Gallilean, Adelphic or any of those forms of Christian...Then it need not apply to you.

Kitten Yiffer: That's what stuff like salad dressing is for.

Seriously, vegetables + dressing = yum. You can do the low-fat thing to minimize the damage, but if you really want to have something that's healthier than a bag of chips...

...I still like chips. Don't get me wrong.

Theres no way I could be vegetarian. Face it, we all like meat. Delicious meat.

If someone were to lay out 2 platters, one with a heap of dry lettuce and the other with a juicy, seasoned steak, which would you choose? Yeah, thats right.
