Anyone remember this one in particular?

'If predictions are correct, Earth will plow through the filament on Wednesday, August 11th at 2100 UT (5 p.m. EDT). This will produce a surge of mostly-faint meteors over Europe and Asia. Observers might see "as many as 200 meteors per hour," says Cooke, who recommends getting away from city lights to watch the flurry.

(Note: Perseids favor northern latitudes. Because of the way Comet Swift-Tuttle's orbit is tilted, its dust falls on Earth's northern hemisphere. Meteors stream out of the constellation Perseus, which is barely visible south of the equator.)

Later that night, observers in North America can see the "traditional Perseid peak" caused by the older dust from Swift-Tuttle. "Expect 40 to 60 meteors per hour, some of them bright," says Cooke.

The best time to look for these "traditional Perseids" is during the hours before dawn on Thursday, August 12th. Set your alarm for 2 o'clock in the morning; go outside; lie down on a sleeping bag with your toes pointed northeast. You'll soon see meteors racing along the Milky Way.'

Full story here...but you can probably find a lot more about it by Googling for stuff...like this. I dunno if you guys are star-gazers or anything...but I figure if things are falling out of the sky I might as well notify.

Oh hells yeah. For some reason or another, I seem to forget this EVERY DAMN YEAR.

But not this year, I'm going to remember this time.

We here in North America wont be able to see it like those in Eurasia, but 40-60 meteors an hour is still very good.

I might just go watch that... I'm usually not into star-gazing and such, but it could make a nice evening... and I wouldn't have to go far to get away from the city lights, considering I live in what's basically a farming town.

I talked with my wife about it at lunch today... she marked it on her calendar, so I don't have the option of forgetting it now, lol.

The one day I'm not camping in Clear Lake during the week, has to be the day of the peak. Hopefully I'll still be able to see some during the other days...

I think the last time I attempted to look at this particular one was either back in '98 or '99 and that was when I was down in Arkansas for a 'vacation' down there...didn't see too many...a few streaks of light here and there but that was about it...it was north Arkansas...but it was still pretty much too far south to get a decent view...I mean at least now I'll have somewhat of a decent view up here in Peoria...it'll just be a slight problem getting away from lights...but there's not too many around where I live, so it's not as bad as it could be...but it's definitely worse then when I used to live in the country and the only lights that I could see other than house lights were approximately several miles off or in-town a ways away. Needless to say...if you ever wanted to see a sky, you would see a sky...that was definitely something taking binoculars back in '97 to Hale-Bopp when it was going across...completely clear sky.

Theres no point in me trying to get up for this. I set my alarm, it goes off, and I never get out of bed ...

Even if I did get up to see it though, it would be hard to see... stupid light pollution

For the time being...I think I'll sticky this...since it is a few weeks off and I did kind of get a little bit ahead of myself when I posted this, just as a reminder if nothing else...I figure if anything else it won't be THAT bad of a sticky.

Hell, I was going to request this being a sticky.

And after all, a extra sticky won't hurt anybody.

At least the chanche for seeing it increases for me now.

I usually always star gaze if I can but the damn light pollution gets in the way.

I'm usually up at 8AM regradless. I'm also always up at 5AM to watch the sunrise so I'll probably catch it.

I'm lucky, I'm good at staying up late, I really really can't wait to see this!

Maybe I'll sneak out of my house in the middle of the night to go see it with some friends...
