You know, Gerald Ford was actually a very agile and athletic person. The fall he took, unfortunately, was what branded him a klutz. In actuality he played college football and was damn good at it. He never tripped after that incident, nor did he do so beforehand, he was simply a victim of the media.

And Kornfan is correct, much as I dislike Bush I doubt we'd have been any better off with Gore in the office, neither of them were prepared to deal with the attacks that came that fall despite the efforts of the Clinton administration to avoid the terrorist attacks. Be that as it may, I'm rooting for Kerry this time around, just so we can try to get rid of the Patriot Act. Did you know that a lot of the U.S. Senators never actually read it? Up here in RI not a single senator truly looked at the entire act (it's like a fucking novel), yet they voted for it with passion because of the chaos of the 9/11 attacks. It's another example of people being too caught up in the rush to notice their civil liberties being taken.

They poked fun at Ford on The Simpsons...

Say what you will about Bush, but the material just writes itself. What I don't like is when something like this happens and they spend HOURS talking about it on the news. That's kinda... well, it's self-parody in a way.

It's more than self parody, it's stupidity. The news just runs out of stuff to tell us about, so they make sure we know when Bush crashes his bike. All Celebrity media is like that, back when Nsync was popular, we were rightfully informed of every single time Justin Timberlake took a crap. There's no escaping it. That's why I hope I never become famous, or a politician, too many people trying to know about my life.

But it's not like they spend a 2-minute segment talking about it. I mean, I expect that because if done properly, it's a good way to show that the President is like everyone else. He's not perfect.

But when you run it into the ground, then it just becomes stupid. Who cares if he crashed his bike? He's fine, he wasn't injured, he's not going to lose the popular vote because of it... Sheesh.

That's what I hate about the media. Here, anyways. I don't know if it's like this in other countries.

It's like this in a way:

"And in science news, developers have discovered a new way to use rocket fuel by....wait, hold on....this just in. Jennifer Lopez has bought a kitten. Details are sketchy at this point, but we do know it's a tabby. Repeat, Jennifer Lopez now owns a yet to be named tabby cat. More details as they come in. What a remarkable story."

It's bullshit. That's not news, it's crap.

I don't think anyone will ever get over the infamous pretzel...of.....dooooooOOooom.

You have to admit that the pretzel thing WAS hilarious.

But if it had happened to any other important person in the media, it would get a glancing mention. Instead, the whole incident hung over Bush for like a week or two.

Ah well, it could be worse. The media could be like it was when Trudeau was in power and his wife was banging the Rolling Stones.

Yeah, it did show that the president isn't exactly perfect, but nobody is, do we really need to know that he had a slight mishap while exercising? He's the president, I don't see why the media can't just leave him alone when he's not our executive leader. Same with celebrities, there's a reason why George Clooney stays out of the public eye, and why Marlon Brando bought an island in Tahiti, and why Sean Connery never goes to nightclubs. It's because going out in public when you're famous just isn't worth the risk of being found.

From what I heard, Trudeau was more than an asshole.

And Georges Bush, what he wants being noticed.

If I remember correctly, both of them wouldn't do a good job. However, people can say Bush was never really elected since Bush didn't get the popular vote Oh well, forget 2000, 2004 is coming up and that is all that matters...

But cute.

But then, imagine what if the news did the same thing on every person in the country. Bush is US president yes, but he is also a human. Like everyone else...

Besides I have been in the similar accident as him, didn't get into the news for that.

it is because Americans, in general, place the president upon a pedestal, in the sense that he doesn't have "human fallacies" in he doesn't fall, he doesn't choke, etc. we believe he is perfect as a human being (when we take away politics). After all, what about Queen Elizabeth and the Royal Family in England. They have a high status in expecting to be perfect (a.k.a royal) and when there is a miscue, the press is all over it...

i hope that makes sense but basically, we place celebrities in an area in which we don't consider them to be everyday people...

At first I didn't really mind Bush. But he doesn't really seem to be to good of president material. But I think and agree that we would all be in one hell of a larger mess if Gore had been elected. I think right now that bush is just kind of your average joe. But then sometime I think he knows more than what he can tell... so I don't really know what I think of him at the moment...

Yeah, and there are rumours about someone who has a lover, someone being homosexual, yadda yadda...

Typical things that the press LOVES to write about...
