I'm a guy, but even still I'm slightly offended by the whole... "You're kidding! Girl gamers exist!?" attitude. It's so idiotic. Of course they exist. I mean, look at the people on this board for example. It's childish to think under the decrepit stereotype "video games are for boys, and occasionally girls play them too". Such as any form of entertainment, (whether it be reading a book or watching a movie) video games are for PEOPLE. My girlfriend happens to be a hardcore video game player herself. She is just as knowledgable in video games as any common male gamer (if not more!) ... and I don't even think of her as a girl gamer, I think of her as a gamer... period. | |||

Well I don't think of my friend as a girl gamer in THAT way either, it's just that unfortunately where I live there seriously are NOT many girls who play video games, so it is somewhat of a rarity for me. The perspective changes based on where you are, you may have plenty of female friends who are hardcore gamers, but that won't change the fact that girls in my area still ostracize video games, making my attitude a product of my surroundings. But I'm getting out of hand, if you're offended, please forgive me. I can understand where you're coming from, considering all the stuff I write in Anya and Christie's, I should have known better than to glorify something that directly contradicts my beliefs. By having that "NO WAY!!!!" attitude that you describe, in turn I do something to separate girls from guys even more. You're right, games are for people. |

that's GREAT kirby. thats just what i think. but its not guys that seem to offend me its the girls that are my friends who, while i'm willing to try doing stuff that they enjoy, they still look at video games as the passtime of guys. and me. all my friends that are worth being friends with still like me despite it, but i just dont enjoy the looks they give me when i say: maybe you want to try playing some playstation? its not all of them though, in fact i have one friend who's brother owns a playstation and from what i hear she plays it a little bit when he's not around. but then i have a friend on the other extreme... i mention something in a conversation that has to do the slightest bit with gaming and whatever i'm trying to say is buried in an avalanche of Sighs and "oh my god tex you're so obsessed"'s. is it too much to ask for her to try it before she knocks it? the best i've gotten is she played that stupid 3d pacman game they had for psone. but she doesn't like it when i mention that in public. with my female friends i sometimes feel like a leper. but thats ok, thats why i have so many guy friends... ~texx~ |

Originally posted by Kirby PopStar Thank you! And as previously mentioned, girl gamers aren't a rarity anymore. They used to be a few years ago, but alot of companies have adapted their games to attract female audience aswell. I was a bit annoyed when I bought my PS2 two years ago, because the guy behind the counter made the cheesy remark I was making my boyfriend very happy. But that happens with so many things in life -.- At any rate, I have laughed my ass off when I visit sites for 'girl gamers'. If you like feministic bullcrap, do a google search on it for a good laugh XD |

I know that they exist (hell, there's enough proof in this thread... ) but finding them is another matter. For example, MOST people I see playing GBA's at school/on the subway are males. And the one female I did see playing GBA... well... she was kicking ass in SFA3. |

ji'm proud to be a girl gamer XD whether its a rarity or not. and i make it painfully obvious to most people lol. the guy at gamestop near where i work knows me by name. :-0 it has its good points and bad ones. apparently it comes with its own discounts ;-) but of course, i have been swindled by that same eb games. just recently i got a used ps2 there... i got the wrong power cord with the package, the cord to the controller had holes in it... with bare wire sticking out... and it would not play a single dvd. so i returned it and the guy looks inside the system and points out that there was actual DIRT inside the console. not just dust. DIRT. he shook it out onto the counter to show me. i can't believe they tried to sell me that. i returned it immediately and got a full cash refund. which i took straight to gamestop and bought a used system that was in ten times better a condition. ~texx~ |

He does work there actually. Yeah... There's boxes upon boxes of used systems at our EB, but I've never taken the plunge. |

Pretty ironic, isn't it. Anyway, we all know that even if what the guy said was true, he still was looking at something else than what he said. Yeah... When you're talking to a girl, her eyes are on her HEAD. I saw another girl at Concordia yesterday playing a GBA while waiting for a movie... Couldn't get into position to see what she was playing though. Always interesting to see. |

Ooh, I do that all of the time. Whenever I see someone with a GameBoy of any kind, I get so nosy. I can't help but lean back, look over, whatever it takes to get a glimpse at what game they're playing. (I've always been able to identify the games too!) |
