Ah. Now I see why I didn't think there was a level with ice and lava. Because there was none.

There is no ice in that snapshot. There are crystal-rocks on the ground, and stalactites on the ceiling, but no ice.

Well sorry, sorry. They seemed very convincing as icicles to me. The first time they appeared was in the ice cave level in 5-1. And I remember reading in an old issue of Nintendo Power that level 6-5 was a combination of lava and ice. But if you insist, then whatever, they're not icicles...

I think they are definitely icicles.

{EDIT} Back on topic, this hack is looking good, but I cant help but wonder why the land in world one is grey. It just doesnt look right.

They are. When you come close to them or shoot them, they fall down and break into many ice shards with a sound like breaking glass. And the manual calls them icicles, too.

Me too, i always considered them stalactites.

About the ow, GoYo, you wrote 'Pirhana' at that piranha plant's secret level name in the ow. I don't know if you made that on purpose, or if you were typing too fast at the time. But 'Pirhana' is ugly, put 'Piranha'

And the ow is a bit squarish. The level design is good, but the ow is very squarish

Nintendo Power? The same Nintendo Power that said that Chain Chomp becomes free after 160 seconds in Super Mario Bros. 3? I don't always take what they say too seriously. My eyes dictate to me that there was no ice in level 6-5.

If you're saying (or maybe I misunderstood) that the Chain Chomp doesn't get free, the I can tell you that you're wrong. After some time (160 GAME seconds, i think), it gets free and heads directly for Mario. If he misses or when he hits Mario, he'll fly off-screen.

I didn't say that Chain Chomp doesn't free itself. I said Chain Chomp does not free itself after 160 seconds.

Smallhacker, Chain Chomp freeing itself has absolutely nothing to do with how much time has passed.
