have your hero talk to hero 2 with on action key.......

enter your text messages once these are done set a switch someting like talk done...you will need three blank events just pure colour squares that do not turn into people until this switch comes on.

when you turn talk done switch on have your second hero pageblank....

now set of the npc to auto start, use the commands move event 1,2,3 etc. and use wait so the event does not carry over until they have moved...now active another switch name this one char moved....when this switch is on leave the npc pages blank but still have the characters standing there.....

now with hero two have char moved switch make the messages or comba, whatever appear....

if this does not solve your problem then say and I will spend a fair amount of time on a step by step guide for you.....I know how irritating it can get. 2003 is paticuarly confusing at times.
