Originally posted by The_Raven Actually, that way of cutting and cooking potatoes was invented in belgium, it carried around to the rest of europe, and returning american soldiers from one of the two world wars (I don't remember which one) opened restaurants where they served "French fries" among other things ;p And French toast is actually one of those British recipes that frenchmen wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole :/ Edit: From what I could gather, an otaku is one of these categories of people, there's no direct translation since they're pretty unique, let's say otakus are to japan what goths are to america, a category of people with a different lifestyle than the rest of the population, with a pejorative connotation. Otakus are basically people who stay home all day watching anime, when they go out they're usually dressed in a very effeminate manner (i.e. they try to be androgeneous), dye their hair purple and do drugs, listen to metal, and like to suicide. That stereotype is very similar to the goth stereotype, with some twists. (Explained to me by a japanese friend) (edited by Kiwibonga on 07-22-04 10:46 AM) |

I don't think they are originally Belgian, even though they're sold everywhere as Belgian waffles. But since Belgian people tend to have a knack for sweets, I wouldn't be surprised if it really has some origin in Belgium. (edited by Sofie on 07-22-04 10:50 AM) |

Everything about Rhode Island is true. The roads are horrible, and the drivers are even worse. we all have bad accents and say things like wicked a lot. |

Legion, it might be said derisively about someone, but not as a direct insult. More like "well those people aren't cool at all; they're a bunch of otaku who read sukebe manga all the time". The word "otaku" means (another person's) home, and is frequently used to mean "you" by telemarketers and the like who want to sound polite without being too familiar. Supposedly anime buffs liked using this word in the same way, and now "otaku" has re-morphed into a noun with another meaning. |

Massachusetts is not still in the revolutionary era.. Boston is a modern city, and doesnt have signs in Olde English (No "Ye Olde Bostoneth" or something) And Hingham isn't entirely populated by the uber-rich, but that's a misconception limited to basically a few other South Shore towns, ass 99% of the world doesnt know anything about Hingham, including it's existance |
