Well, I go back to the hospital every three weeks for a 3-4 day stay. The next time I do that is August 8, I think. Besides that, I'm home, although I have to go to the cancer center every few days for checkups and the like.

Went for one today as a matter of fact. Apparently, all my blood levels (Red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets) are really good, so here's hoping that that can continue in the foreseeable future. Thursday is going to be a bitch though. I get to take steroids. Lots of them. Like 10 pills a DAY for four days lots. Insert your own baseball joke here.

Wow. I agree with everyone who admires the way you're handling this. If I had cancer, I'd probably be completely freaking out. My mom was diagnosed with breast cancer 2 1/2 years ago. She had surgery to remove the lump and took some hormone suppressant drugs (it was the sort of cancer that feeds off estrogen), and she's been fine ever since. I hope that this year of treatment will kill off your tumor for good.

I would be too...I would wonder if he did silently to keep his sanity from cracking.

But I guess the acceptance part works, not like he can let this interfere with his life and at least he's trying past what's been dropped on his lap...for that I'd applaud him. Better to keep on going than stand around freaking out about something that might prove to be fatal.

I don't know...I really don't think I could coach or give advice anyone about having such a problem as this, especially since I've never come down with anything remotely close to that. So...I guess, like everyone else said, the best thing to do would be go on living and keep your spirit up. I guess you can find a little solace in the fact that a few people are keeping you in their mind and hope for your well-being. I sure do.

Damn, Emptyeye. I know it's been said a few times in this thread but it can't be said enough. The way you're handling this is truly awe inspiring.
We live in a world where if someone gets a pimple, they think their life as they know it is over.

And here you are battling cancer (and winning ) in the most courageous way fashinoable. It's attitudes like this that determines the victor in battles such as these.

Cancer is a horrible thing, yes. And sometimes there's just no means of curing certain patients. But if they continue to live their life the way they want to, and don't let it get the best of them, then even when they do pass away from it, I still say that they never lost the battle in the first place.

It makes me very happy to hear that you're going to be alright after it's all said and done. You've always been one of my favorite users and all of us old timers are just thrilled that you came back. Here's to many more posts and threads until the day Ace pulls the plug on the board (god forbid) or they delete the internet.

I also agree that Emptyeye is handling this very well... I don't know if I'd be handling it as well as he is if I were in his situation.

Just make sure you get better, Emptyeye... you're one of the best posters here, and I think it's safe to say that people like you around here, and want you to stay.

Heh, thanks for the admiration everyone.

Believe me, I've had my moments of freaking out, although thankfully none since I came home from the hospital a week ago (Basically, all the treatments left me completely wiped out, and I didn't/don't want to feel that way for an entire year. Luckily, it looks like I'm not going to, at least if how I'm responding now is any indication).

As far as living my life the way I want to, well, this certainly sidetracks things a bit. But I'll get through it.

The next hard part will probably be in about a week and a half when I go back to the hospital and start to lose my hair. As I mentioned (I think), actually being bald won't be a big deal, since I wear my hair short as it is, but the transition is likely going to suck (Since it falls out in bunches and the like).

If you don't want to worry about the transition from hari to no hair, then you could shave your head ahead of time.

Anyway, good luck. You're an inspiration.

Neko: Surprisingly, the steroids didn't affect me that much, aside from making me hungry as all hell. Which I usually am anyway, so it wasn't that big a deal.

Wlokos: Actually, they recommended that I let the hair fall out on its own. Something about if I cut it too short the follicles could end up ingrown or something. Not fun either way.

So back to the cancer center for a PET Scan later today..basically a glorified CT scan where they look at my entire body and make sure they didn't miss anything. The sucky thing is I can't eat breakfast. Ah well.

Okay, so here's what's happening now.

My hair is finally starting to fall out. I noticed when I took a shower and realized I was rubbing my hair all over my face as I was drying off. Suffice to say that it didn't taste very good. So now I guess I just wait until it all falls out.

The good news is, the results of the PET scan came in yesterday. The only unusual activity is where the lymphoma is, and it's much smaller than it was on the CT scans they took when I was in the hospital. In other words, the treatment is working, very well in fact. This is a very good thing, believe me.

So now I just wait until Monday when it's back to the hospital. Sadly, I probably won't have access to a computer whlie I'm there (Which will be until either Thursday if I'm lucky or Friday if I'm not), but thanks to the wonder that is the Game Boy Advance SP, I'll have no shortage of things to do while I'm there.

Games to play (In varying stages of completion):
Breath of Fire II
Dragon Warrior II
Sword of Mana
A Link to the Past
Yoshi's Island

So I'll be good for awhile.

That's a good thing to hear, very good thing.

And, at least, you'll have something to do when you'll be at the hospital.

Well, in the morning it's back to the hospital. As I mentioned above, I'll likely be compless for this visit, so try and generally keep things in order while I'm gone.

Luckily, I now have even more games to play while I'm there. The list as it stands now is:

To Start:
Sword of Mana
Golden Sun
Golden Sun: The Lost Age

Varying Stages of Completion:
Yoshi's Island
A Link to the Past
Dragon Warrior II
Breath of Fire II

So I think I'll be good as far as entertainment goes. This, of course, is providing I'm willing to do anything in the coming days.

So here comes another update, because it's easier than making a whole new thread (And it's still within the viewing window on 1024*768).

I'm home from the hospital again for another two and a half weeks. Still tired, though for the moment I'm doing better than I was the last time I came home from the hospital (Being in for 4 days as opposed to 10 has a lot to do with that). My next checkup is on Monday, I think I get the shot that boosts my white blood cell count up again.

In the meantime, I'm mainly just siitting around. As a random (And somewhat disgusting) fact, I came home from the hospital yesterday weighing 153.5 pounds (About 70kg for you metric folk). This morning, I weighed 144.5 (66kg). Yep, in the span of about 16 hours I managed to pee out about 10 pounds of fluid...kinda nuts, isn't it?
