Ya, just imagine a translucent, carniviourous rose. That would just creep me out. I personally would like to have food, like apples, oranges etc, taste and look like other foods. Imagine a piece of brocolli (sp?) that looks and tastes like chocolate!! I like brocolli, but for all those kids who don't, this would be a great idea!!

natural purple roses? i believe you are mistaken and confused the flower with something else. Roses have no natural pigments to produce anything past yellow. Therefore, unless the water was dyed, you are mistaken...

Have any of you ever been to canada? In ontario (not goig to say where beacsue I live here) There is a place called Pam's Flower Garden. My mom and gran used to work there and they had a special rose every year that was treated for a few yesr (the seeds, not the rose it self). And after about 3 years the rose produced a browish color to it. It wasn't the nicest thing in the world but it was pretty cool. Now they have them all year round. I guess they were dyed at the beggining but after like 6 years or so the rose produced brown rose seeds. I guess the color replaced the original white in the DNA of the rose.

Even if they're not roses they still look like a purdy, made up flower. I don't care what flowers they are. They're just some flowers that I'd take. Maybe

...That's not how genetics works, Lamark. Genes on an individual do not change (well, normally), and traits passed on are the same ones the individual had at birth. No ammount of dye will change that. The only normal way to breed blue roses would be to take lots and lots of roses (likely white, since that'd be easiest to see the difference on) and hope a random mutation gets you the color.

Anyway, blue roses, cool. That could actually prove quite handy to me.

Squash is right with the genetics. I suppose if you isolated the chromosome on a blue flower and then took the gene that made it blue and spliced that with a white rose, it might work. You could have issues if it was a linked gene(controls more than one trait, for the non-bio dorks out there). Sounds like an interesting idea though. I black or blue roses would be awesome. Even better, roses with multi colors like a calico cat. Wonder how you'd pull that off, maybe transposons?

If I'm not mistaken (I very well could be) I heard that they already have black roses. Just not in the US, and nobody here can get them as its illegal to import mutated plants. Then again, I heard this from a likely noncredible source.

Actually, its quite possible to make blue roses, and it can be easily done. Usually, the red color comes from iron right?

So, what could the blue come from? Cobalt. The roses were probably were bio-engineered to accept cobalt as a food source more than iron. Very interesting nonetheless.

Wow! I had no idea flowers could become so complicated. I thought the only way to make oddly colored flowers was to stick them in dyed water. Of course, that could be because I haven't gone through High School sience yet...

Nope, dyed water certainly isn't the only way. There's also spray paint.
