has anyone ever heard of the rock/pop group called muse? well if not they are quite a big brittish band who came from Teignmouth? guess which college I go to?
that's right Teignmouth any way we just had a multi million pound music and arts centre built...well Muse popped along to give the building it's official opening..I have never liked muse however they do have a very certain presence about them....

the event was pretty cool....one of my friends named peter hatred who is awesome on guitar I mean awesome can play anything. any way he stands around 6"4 and made Muse look like Musgets (midgets) here are some pics from the event....

If you want to have a look at the Teignmouth community college site it has all the info on the event. http://www.teignmouth.devon.sch.uk/

this centre has recording studios and much more...however my favourite part is the basketball court/ gym....I piss around with my buddies doing front flips from 10-foot climbimg frames onto crash mats...I evenl learn't to backflip from a stamding position cool, huh?

Number one, if Valcion see your background, he'll forcibly delete it. Read the announcements for advice on using backgrounds.

Number two, please post in the correct forum. *moves to Entertainment*

Number three, Matt is one of the most tallented musicians in popular rock music

I absolutely adore the Muse song "New Born"...at least I think that's what it's called, it's the one that begins with the piano, and really kicks in about a minute.... Apart from that, Kudos to you for meeting the band.
I did actually meet "Catatonia" before they were famous. They kicked my band's arse in a talent competition. (and rightly so). Cerys was as attractive then as she is now *sighs*

Muse.. Hrm... Time Is Running Out is good.. A lot of the rest is ok, but they're not fantastic or anything. Still, it'd be cool to see them.

Muse is quite the Radiohead wannabe, but a good one. I've heard some stuff from their newest album and thought it was pretty neat.

...Not nearly as neat as Radiohead though.

I'll kill you for that Muse are their own band. Comparing bands is one thing, but saying that is short sighted.

Muse are figureheads for British rock music. They were cruely neglected with the rise of The Darkness.

I also strongly agree with Elmo's opinion on Thom Yorke

Yep, I heard their song a few weeks ago. I liked it but I don't think I'd buy the album. Maybe I just need to hear more from them

Come on... Muse clearly wants to be Radiohead. Their sound is almost identical.

That and "Creep" is a crap song. ;p It's no wonder Radiohead hates playing it.

That's a load of nonsense, besides, who the hell would want to be Radiohead?

It's a crude insult to say that about a band. Being an artist is about making music, not about copying people. If they wanted to do that, you'd find them on Pop-Idol. If you believe that Muse are in the game to be Radiohead, then I think you are sorely mistaken that Radiohead is a band that is worth copying.
It is clear that Muse might have been influenced by Radiohead, but there are people who liken them to deities, and that everyone else is just a follower. This perception is misguided and extremely subjective.

Muse have likely been inspired by a broad range of people, and "wannabe" comparisons are often drawn by people who have not taken the time to appreciate the music in question and lack the knowledge to make a convincing arguement.

Kasumi-Astra, that post has a tone about it that, quite frankly, makes me perceive you as............................

a bitch.
Knock it off.

What I said is, Muse has a sound that's definitely similar to Radiohead. And yes, they're inspired (heavily so, in my opinion) by their music (at least you acknowledge that).

Do Muse specifically want to be Radiohead? Do they act in their shoes? No. What exactly is it you're trying to say?

Muse is clearly a Radiohead rip-off band. They still make good music, and it doesn't take away their credibility. Are Radiohead perfect deities? No, I'm not even a huge fan of them. Are Muse better than Radiohead? No, Radiohead is clearly better. Has your negative opinion on Radiohead made you sour towards Radiohead fans (whimsical ones or not)? Yes, I would indeed say so.

Take off the "bitch" attitude and put it in the closet. Better yet, take it out back and shoot it. It's unnecessary, and sickening.

About the "artist" thing, being about making music and not about copying people... I don't know what your opinion of Nine Inch Nails is, but to me they're one of the greatest bands ever, and I hold The Downward Spiral in high regards (my favorite album, actually). Trent Reznor started out NIN to sort of copy other band's styles, musicians he admired. According to him, Pretty Hate Machine is full of it. I know personally that "Down in It" has the same drum patterns and guitar cues as Skinny Puppy's "Dig It", a near identical song except for the rapping. Come later on in NIN's history, the song "A Warm Place", a very beautiful and artful song, is nothing but a straight copy of David Bowie's "Crystal Japan", albeit a different beginning and better production values and sounds. It's still a lovely song (I love them both), and is no less great for me, knowing that it's basically a rip-off of another song. (I think of it as a remake. Trent allegedly subconsciously copied it anyway.)

As for Hail to the Thief, I think it's a very good album. The songwriting is nowhere near as good as what they used to do, but I like the studio work and all of that. Never listened to Kid A...

Your example of Trent Reznor copying other bands is a little different to your belief that Muse are out there to copy just one band.
In essence, you proved me right that artists are influenced by a range of artists, and not just one

I do not have a negative opinion on Radiohead. I simply have a negative opinion on the Radiohead fans that I have seen so far. True, they do not represent Radiohead fans as a whole, but I have witnessed the majority of the Radiohead fans that I have seen lack the ability to let the arguement lie when someone challenges Radiohead.

Do you realise that when you say "Radiohead are clearly better" you can only call judgement in your own context? You aren't in a position to try to convince me that Radiohead are better than Muse. If you try telling me to adopt your music tastes over my own, you're quite mistaken. I am very proud of my music taste, and it is based soley on the music, as any taste should be and not on following others like a blind sheep.

Now, I admit that there are some thing that I will not stand for, and I will get visibly irate about. One of those things is someone attempting to destroy the credibility of a band I care very deeply about.

"Muse is clearly a Radiohead rip-off band." This is what I'm talking about. That statement is trying to say the Muse's achievments are only as big as they are thanks to Radiohead.
Do you think they would have become as big as they are today if they'd just followed the Radiohead formula?
Their success is based on their evolution of their sound. They've continually done new things with each subsequent album, and it has convinced the music press, the fans, and even people who didn't know Muse before Origin of Symetry.

I'm not knocking Radiohead at all. I'm simply requesting that you consider respecing Muse in their own right. Appreciate the music without continually comparing it to other band's music.

Amen to that Kas.

Muse sound similar to old style pre "Kid A" Radiohead. My other fave Radiohead song would be Street Spirit (Fade Out), although "The Darkness" made a kick arse cover of it

The thing is, both bands developed at around the same time, so to say that muse are ripping off Radiohead is like saying all grunge bands rip off Nirvana. Just because they evolved a smiliar sound doesn't mean they're ripping them off.

I mean perhaps you'd like to sayy all Hip hop artists "rip off" Grandmaster Flash or Run DMC, or all Dance DJ's "Rip off" Carl Cox.

Kasumi - For some reason, when you said "overshadowed by the rising of The Darkness"., I began thinking of the "Fast Fod Rockers", as they ARE the forces of drakness

"In essence, you proved me right that artists are influenced by a range of artists, and not just one"

No shit. Never denied that. But there are also bands with strong similarities to others. haloblack was heavily inspired by NIN's PHM and Prince's Purple Rain, but has its own unique sound that is really nothing like either artists.

I'm not a Muse expert and am really no fan of the band (haven't really sat down to listen to them much), but their similarities to Radiohead are too big to be ignored. I'm not saying they're carbon copies, but definitely can be compared to them if you ask me.

As much as I love Gary Numan's Pure, I'll always liken it to Nine Inch Nails, even though it has its differences (its similarities are still so strong).

But I see what you mean and I have no reason to really argue. Just don't flare up so badly next time.

"The thing is, both bands developed at around the same time. . ."

Didn't Radiohead form 8 years before Muse? And didn't Radiohead release 3 full length albums (including OK Computer) before Muse released its self-titled debut EP, with a full length coming out two years afterwards?

Abnormal Freak: That wasn't flaring up... That was mildly irritated

To be honest, I'm not an expert on Radiohead. When you see me flaring up like that, it's only in defence. There were also some digs in there too towards Radiohead fans, which you won't see often on this board
