That is almost smart though, because would you want an alligator tired to a fire hydrant if there was a fire? I do loves these things though.

5.
LAW: It is required by law that you make a loud noise when passing a car on the left.

I found that one most hilarious of them...

3.
LAW: There is a one-dollar fine for every instance of public drunkenness and/or swearing.

If they used that one today, everyone would be poor...

They don't list it there, but it's illegal in Texas for the water in a specific river to go above a specific bridge... Can't remember which of either, though, but it's still odd.

LAW: It is illegal to wear a bulletproof vest while committing a murder. Probably a big typo, who became a law.

But it's just so wrong.

I wonder how the laws got there in the first place...

Another stupid law is that in Texas it is a $500 dollar fine to set off a nuclear device with more than 5 megatons of force... Yeesh, $500 fine, and a few thousand counts of murder...

Nonono. If you survive, you're put to death. And if you jump off in a hangglider or something, you're put to death. Basically, any stunt off a building is punishable by death, because they don't want the average person to think it's a good idea to hangglide off a building like these people do.

Well, the murder count kinda depends on WHERE you set it off in Texas.
There's plenty of open space in that state, so you might actually kill no one (but then, if you don't kill anyone... what's the point of setting off a nuke? )

Besides, I think the $500 fine would be in addition to whatever sentence you'd get for the murders.

Can Phil confirm that Rhode Island law?

LAW: It is illegal to wear a bulletproof vest while committing a murder.

OK... So basically I need to make sure that the cops can kill me on their first shot. Right.

LAW: Unless a customer orders it specifically, it's against the law to serve margarine instead of butter at a restaurant.

I wish Washignton had that one. I hate margine.

There are a slew of dumb laws. dumblaws.com has a ton of them.

Persons may be placed in jail for up to five years for shooting a hole in a penny.

The person who came up with this law has a good imagination...

This is a Reno law: Benches may not be placed in the middle of any street.

Uh, this...now, WHO would place a bench in the middle of a street?

What the heck? Talk about impossible law...
There was a possible explanation for that one (the guy doesn't know if it's true or not, it's just what he heard about it):
Some state senator in Texas decides he wants some bill killed, so he attaches that to it as an amendment, hoping that it would force people to vote against the bill when they realized the impossibility of that. It didn't turn out quite as he'd hoped though; the other senators seemed to look straight past it.

As he said on the page, if it's true, that sort of tactic might explain some other laws on the books.

Ok, ... Massachusetts also apparently has an anti-Christmas law... Does that give the government the right to assassinate Santa? *shot*

And Hingham has laws regulating the colors of Christmas lights on Main Street...
