| [Rant] I am so damn tired of listening to people complain on the Internet, I really really am. Nothing annoys me more than listening to some little kid bitch and moan about much everything in this world sucks when not a single one knows anything about the world outside of the school system. (Ok, some do but you get my point). I said this today to a girl who was pissing and moaning about not being in love... Me: Trying to find true love at 13 is almost as stupid as paying for AOL disks  Cause lets face it you wont. Your "True Love" is only going to be the "Love of your life" for about 2-3 months. | Apple, with regards to #2, you will be dismayed (or maybe relieved) that the use of Japanese words on English speaking boards is as nothing compared to the use of English on Japanese message boards, TV commercials, print ads, games, and basically everywhere else. These language defilers (I say this only half-tongue-in-cheek, since communication between these people and anyone over about 50 is a genuine social problem) have actually contributed to the almost complete eradication of various Japanese words that have been around for centuries, and replaced them with their own barely-comprehensible English slang. Think "Clockwork Orange" here. And with that latest monku on the joutai of gendai no kotoba-zukai, I'll be off. |

| Legion, stop defending your fucked up country, kthx :/ I mean I have first hand experience, being a teenager in the US is a nightmare. Everyone is fucked up in america at that age. There's no solidarity between kids, it's all a big competition to become the best and the most popular. When I was in france, it was never like this. Nobody attempts suicide over the weekend because Ashley and Heather dumped water on their white t shirt during lunch. By moving back to france I went from "stupid nerd nobody talks to" to "normal guy who is friendly and pretty much as popular as the next guy." I didn't want to believe it. One day I was talking to a girl about my website and she was all interested, she actually respected my hobby without dismissing me as some moron with ahem "no life." Or you know, maybe the two high schools I've been to were excessively friendly. Heian, you have to make the difference between borrowed words and some dumb internet trend. "OMG KAWAII ^  ;;;; LOL" is not something you'll hear on the street. Japanese has a lot of english words in it, much like english borrows "Cafe" from french, "aficionado" from spanish, and they are actually in the dictionary. What appears in commercials and such is something else. You see, outside of english speaking countries, anything that's written in english is cool. That's not just Japan, it's everywhere.People who write japanese words are also people who are like "I wish I was japanese" -- now why the hell would they want to become japanese? To learn to sleep on a futon and eat sushi every day? To watch more anime? I have a different motive in life. I wish I was a fairy so I could ride a magical pink pony. |

Why did I have to come to the US to learn what a jock or a nerd was? Not because they're english words, no, but because in france there's no such thing. See, everyone gets along. When a kid gets picked on in france, he doesn't get picked on because "We're cool and you're not cool" -- he gets beat up because the strong kids need to steal his lunch money. What do american kids do? They take the nerd, duct tape him to the wall, but don't take his money. What kind of fucked up country is this? Oral sex is foreplay? Huhuh. Sure. Basically you're protecting your country as if we were insulting it... But actually I'm summing up the average american kid's values. I could add stuff like "gay people are icky," etc. I could change my statement to... Of all the places I've been to, the US is the most fucked up. But if you just walked away, nothing would happen to you. But then again, you wouldn't know that because you didn't go to my high school. You didn't even go to my state. You didn't even go to my half of the country. All you know was that little place that you stayed at and based an entire nation off of it. "What do american kids do? I've been to Germany, Italy, Ireland, and Saudi Arabia before. I loved visiting them all. (Yes, even Saudi Arabia. It's not so bad.) And like you mentioned in irc, I never went to school there so I don't know. But I didn't go around talking about it. And I certainly wouldn't if I only went to one school overseas because I'm pretty sure they all have their differences too. EDIT: More content! I forgot to mention some things. In my school, say some big burly guy decides to randomly beat up some scrawny kid. Where I come from, people are going to look down on him for doing that because the kid had no way to defend himself. Chances are, he's going to have some other big guy looking for him to teach him a lesson. I've seen it happen before. Not just beating up some little guy or that, but even picking on him. We had many of the "jocks" who weren't the typical self-centered egotistical assholes. A lot of them were nice guys who actually stood up for the geeky kid. I know it's not like that for every high school but I know it was for mine. Just one out of thousands out there. Last thing. When I was at Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia, it wasn't just our troops there. There were also Brittish, French, and Australian forces there as well. So I did get to experience different types of people from differnt militaries as well. Fun fact about the Brits: Not really on topic but... We weren't allowed alchohol while we were over there (It's banned from the country. Religious reasons I think) but the Brittish were. I heard that they were even rationed beer. =-o I also learned that when they're deployed, the Queen takes care of their bills while they're gone (housing bills, etc...) Pretty nice stuff.
