I love DOS! Finally a username that is not my first name! Yeah. I got my name changed during that whole computer name madness thing... I think I like my third non-graphical layout. (I've never relied on graphics for layout set-up. I had a Firefox logo in my previous one, but that's not much...) |

I think that blinking thing only works in non-ie browsers. And I use IE. Nice. Heh, I have heard about freedos. Stumbled across it when I did read about Boch. |

Blink is no official HTML code thing. It's mainly only availible for Netscape/Mozilla/Firefox users. The blink just adds an extra effect. A static underscore is good enough. I just noticed I'm a posting-advertisment here! My last layout advertised Firefox, and now my profile adverstises FreeDOS! |

Your name reminds me of "freetos" or however you spell those. Pretty cool in general though, I'd say an improvement. |

And what was your old username...? I've used DOS a lot, I know a lot of the commands...I even fooled around with the "batch file" pseudo-programming language... |

FreeDOS sounds like a crazy protest sign...

Actually... the whole open source thing is an big protest against commercial software. The nice thing with open source is, if the orginal devoloper get's tired on it. You can swear that someone else with continue. |

I should try Linux...I got a copy over a year ago but never bothered to install it because I'm lazy... I'm not happy with the commercialization of the software industry...all anyone cares about is money, so they won't let you play a game they last sold ten years ago. It's like an anti-retrogamer conspiracy or something. |

Understandable, they have the copyright on it. But personally I would release some of the old games as "demo". If people like the older games maybe they like the newer ones... They also do remakes of older games. And question yourself. Are movies from ten years ago free? Same thing actually. Have the installation discs for red hat Linux, but can't bother installing it... I need help with partitions... (edited by Kitten Yiffer on 03-18-04 07:52 AM) |

Originally posted by Mighty Kefka 1. DOS programs aren't free, technically. I don't see Windows 98 being handed out (it is, mind you, just a complex DOS program). 2. If no one uses DOS, then a a project such as FreeDOS would cease to exist. 3. No one commented on my layout thing. I expected that more than the username thing... Kitten Yiffer: GNU GLP'ed stuff (it's a more accurate term for Linux/FreeDOS) isn't really a protest against properity. I can see where it looks as so, though. Their purpose is to show people that you don't have to be restricted when using software. Hey, some free software (free as in 'free speech', not 'free beer') is more realible, stable, and secure than the properity counterparts. |

I still have the MS-DOS 6.22 and Windows 3.1 floppy install disks. I've thought about selling them on eBay. I grew up on DOS. First, MSDOS 3.33, then I got MS-DOS 5.0 with Windows 3.0! That was top of the line back then. After that, I got a brand new computer from Packard Bell (does anyone still remember them?) with brand-spanking new MS-DOS 6.22 and Windows 3.1...with the real, unmodified Microsoft disk set. I upgraded that computer to Windows 95 when that came out. I was using Windows 95 until May of last year, when I got a new computer and Windows XP Pro... |

Has anyone noticed how DOS software always outperforms software for protected mode OSs? The DOS version of NESticle out performed every other NES emulator. The DOS version of DOOM outperformed the Windows version and the Linux version. I know why this is, but few people seem to care.Originally posted by Imajin At one time the FreeDOS home page had a banner depicting a protest where people were holding up signs such as "FREE EAST TIMOR". One guy was holding a sign that said "FreeDOS". |
