um...I believe there are other FTP clients out there like WS_FTP or CuteFTP. There are possibly free ones but I don't know where they are...

As for SmartFTP, first time I've heard of the program.

My favourite FTP client is FileZilla.

I didn't even know that shareware/proprietory clients still existed.... wtf

its free for people using it for personal use. Although it does ask you to update and the update you have to pay for--but it does say its free on the site. and the "upload" i was talking about was for my site, not for shareware

But anyways, when I try to upload things over a previous file, it doesnt write over it... which I know it used to.

I had the same thing while I used SmartFTP.
It has a good overview, indeed and a more neat design than FileZilla (what FreeDOS already recommended - I'm using it since few months too and I'm very satisfied ), but FileZilla has the better user interface and it seems to work much faster than SmartFTP.

About the reminder windows in SmartFTP at startup:
I think the "Buy now!" window appears every day when you start up the client in a specific time window; but what's more annoying is the fact, it changes your current page in yoru browser to www.smartftp.com, it is annoying, but this can be prevented if you simply close the window by using the task manager; Smart FTP will start up normally but won't touch your current page in your browser

But on the other hand ... there's nothing too special on SmartFTP anymore, since there are out far more and even better free FTP clients

Easy answer: Use CuteFTP Pro, that's what I've been using. And I've never had any problems with it, and I know it's not free and all, but it's not like you don't know where to get cracks for that. And if you really want a site where there's a working one, PM me.

FlashFXP works rather well for me...although it's not one of those things you'll want to use unless you buy (or have it cracked/serialed) since it's a 30 day trial deal.
