I have homework...over the summer.
I was on vacation for a little while, and when I get back, I had a letter in the mail from my history teacher for the coming year. I had to goto the school, pick up my textbook, and read chapters 23-28, answer questions, AND WRITE AN ESSAY.
It's for an AP history class, but still...wtf. The most HW over the break I've gotten is the reading list.

You're reading five chapters from a history book and then writing an essay? For an AP class? Tell me that you have more work than just that; otherwise, I cannot fathom what would possibly motivate you to complain. Between two of my AP classes, I have five books to read and nearly as many written assignments to complete. The fact that at least one of those books is feminist garbage is not to be neglected, either.

Yep. And I'm complaining. I can only assume that you're doing this over the summer too.

To be totally honest, I don't really care how many AP's anyone else is taking, because I'm not, and don't have to. I only see what I have to do, and it's interfering with my summerness.

So scary. SS, we also have to read three books over the summer and, depending on your grade, you'll either get feminist garbage (which I actually like reading sometimes), inspirational garbage, just plain old garbage, or good books (that's my grade). When I was in AP history I had to do the same thing as Toxic, read some chapters in a book and do some assignments on them. It's really not so bad actually. AP history is one of the most straightforward AP classes. While not the easiest (that honor is reserved for AP english, which is the reason why it's not offered at our school), it's definitely something you can get a grip on if you just pay attention.

And now that I've lost everyone's attention with my ramblings, what're our high school members taking next fall anyway? I've signed up for Calculus 2 AP, Physics 2 AP (but I know I won't be able to handle it so I'm switching out), English 12 honors, and Psychology AP, as well as advanced band. I'm kinda worried that I won't be able to hack it this year because of all the hard classes I'm taking, but I'm still pretty confident about it.

AP = Advanced Placement, correct?
I've been out of school long enough to forget things like that, lol.

And man, that must absolutely suck for you guys... I never had to do any homework over the summer break, even for my advanced classes.

I'm taking some AP classes next year. If I have HW over the summer, I'm going to be ever-so-pissed. Because then I'll have to find some other time to sit around and literaly do nothing.

I'm still doing homework 30 hours a week even though I been out of school for almost two weeks now.

Not summer school, Not AP class bullshit, just trying to make it so I can gradulate next year.

Sucks about the work though...

My apologies, Toxic; rereading my post makes me realize that I came off a bit harsh.

Anyhow, this is the second year in the row where I'm assigned a piece of feminist trash to trudge through. Last year was The Kitchen God's Wife by Amy Tan, and I didn't even pick it up. I simply accepted a poor grade. This year, it's The Awakening.

Now, let me make something clear: I have not read every book in the world. Heck, I haven't read one percent of them. But, judging solely on the merits of what I have seen, I think I can safely state that The Awakening is the worst book ever written.

i'm taking a summer school english course to boost my grades for university and its even harder then what i had to do throughout the normal school year. we are reading 2 books (one of them is an ISU 230 pages long) and the other one is a class book (197 pages) and then we are doing King Lear and The Merchant of Venice...we've written 3 huge essays so far and we've gotta write another 2 comparing and contrasting both the isu book and the class book and the two shakespeare plays. then comes all the busy work and grammer work that we get as well as reading each night. you say YOUR summer is getting taken up...well granted i've gotta deal with this for only 2 weeks but its the hardest 2 weeks of school i've ever had to endure. not only that but our teacher is like HARDCORE HARDCORE hitler-like teacher who marks everything HARD. not only that but unless the essay is PERFECT she won't give out 80% let alone trying to get 90% or 100%...

Hehe, you guys are so cute *pat*

I've been getting summer reading, questions, essays, projects, etc. For NORMAL classes (well, honors actually, but close enough). I don't even want to think about what I did for all the AP classes I took.

My teachers were kinda crazy, if there was even one gramatical error (opps, but a comma in wrong) you fail the assignment. Which kinda sucks if it's worth a huge amount of points.

My english teacher is kind of like that. If you make more than 4 grammar errors, he makes you rewrite the paper. I guess its better than failing, but he keeps the paper so I can't just fix my mistake...

Damn me for never typing my stuff up....

I have to start typing since my hand writing is so horrible no one here could read it, except me. Home work of the break though that counter the whole point of it being a break.

aren't there like rules or something against that...there's NO WAY that they can fail you on an assignment that is work ridiculous marks if you put a comma in the wrong place!

I think the worst they can do is mark you down a percent or something for having an error. That may just be my old teacher though. Mrs. Ward was an awesome teacher.

yeah there's no way that teachers no matter what courses they are teaching would be able to pass/fail you based a a single error. i can see if you are writing an essay and you use an irrelevant thesis or something then yeah but if the work is all thats expected and its worth a lot of marks there's like standards that teachers have to uphold that can't be fucked with like that.

Eh taking an AP or Honors class most likely requires some type of homework. My AP Spanish class doesn't..or else I missed it . If you don't do it you're most likely to start out with a sorry grade so I would do it..or at least attempt. You might just end up with at test and all the works within the first week so I would be ready. For AP Chem last summer I had homework too. We had to read Chapter 1 and 2 I think ahd take a test by the end of the first week. I did most of the reading and attempted a few other things and I did decent on the test..best grade out of the whole year around 20/50. I wasn't very proud but hey it's curved and consisted of AP questions from past years. It was mostly the basics though.

My friends are having to read tons of books, projects, make a review, take notes and all that just for AP English and do some more book work for Honors Pre-Cal. My friend is gonna die next year..mwhaha. I warned her.

...you guys have the option of not typing up papers? Wow. I wouldn't even think of not typing up mine, not only would they not be accepted at all, but typing is in general so much easier because you always have a copy you can edit, re-edit, re-re-edit, re-re-re-edit, etc. I'd hate to have to write the thing 10 times over...

And actually they can fail you (fail the paper, not the whole class...but I guess if you failed every paper you'd fail the class...) and they have. My last english teacher did that and it wasn't even an AP class, only honors. But I ended up with an A in the class, so I can't complain.

Geez, I didn't even start The Awakening yet. I'm scared now. Oh, and for the record, I didn't think TKGW was all that bad (for a school assignment anyway), considering she's the most politically correct feminist teacher I've ever had..

Sure, there's a lot of work involved for an advanced class, but as far as I am concerned, her booty the payoff keeps me motivated...
