I just went to the computer store and ordered parts for my new PC.
Here are the parts:
Case:
CPU: AMD XP 3200+ 64Bit (BOXED)
Mobo:
Epox 8HDA3+
Memory: 2 * 512MB DDR RAM (400 mhz, forgot the manufacturer)
HD: IDE 200 GB 7200 RPM Seagate 8MB buffer
Floppy: 1.44 Black
GFX Card: ATI Radeon X800 Pro 256MB
DVD: DVD ROM Black
DVD Writer: NEC ND2510 Black
Sound: Onboard (6.1 surround)
Network: Onboard
Monitor: 19" TFT 910N
Keyboard: Office KB Black
Mouse: Logitech Click Optical

Think that'll be a pretty decent gaming PC? They told me the CPU clocks at about 3 GHz and I can still change the FSB in the BIOS if it's not to my likings and such.

There's no such thing as a 64-bit AMD XP. There are AMD Athlon XP's, which are 32-bit only, and AMD Athlon 64's, which have both 32-bit and 64-bit modes. And no, it doesn't clock around 3GHz; the Athlon XP 3200+ clocks at 2.2GHz, and the Athlon 64 3200+ clocks at 2GHz, IIRC.

Other than that, it looks pretty sweet to me.

It said AMD XP 3200+ 64 Bit on the paper, here in the book where I selected it it says "AMD XP 64Bit 3200+ skt754 Boxed"

I'll see how much it clocks, else I'll just OC it.

That's an Athlon 64 then. XP's were only available for Socket "A" (aka, Socket 462).

I wouldn't overclock that.
It has the VIA K8T800 chipset, which doesn't have a PCI/AGP clock lock -- that means that if you overclock your processor, you'll overclock the PCI and AGP busses too; that can lead to hard drive data corruption, and the graphics card not working right.

Hmm, ok, that sucks.
Oh well, it'll still be fast enough for a bit of gaming. (And I'm not talking Unreal Tournament 2004 or Doom 3 here, I'm talking Black & white and such. )

It'll be MORE than fast enough for current games -- Doom 3 and Half-Life 2 though... well, who knows until they've actually been released?

Btw: I'm running a P4 2.8C (800MHz FSB + HyperThreading), with a Radeon 9700 Pro, and I can play comfortably at 1600x1200 in UT2004, so you won't have any worries if you like to play that.

That sounds promising. What detail level?

Everything's at normal except for (IIRC) texture detail, which I have set to high. The background looks ugly and blocky otherwise.

Anyway, we should stop the back-and-forth posting... if you'd like to talk with me more about that, feel free to send a PM.

EDIT: Screwed up the quote.
