First, try another keyboard. If you can. I wonder, when did this start happening? It's a wireless keyboard if I got it right? Does the BIOS show any errors. (The BIOS dosen't like faulty keyboards) This seems to be hardware related, a way to check if it's hardware related is by testing the keyboard on another computer. |

The restart didn't do a thing, so I just hooked up my old keyboard and I just restarted again to see if anything happens. Since my XP needs a password to log on, I can't even log into my own computer right now. It was fine, but I had to put up new curtains and I had to move the desk and unplug the computer, so that might have something to do with the problem at hand. Or it could just be the batteries. Old keyboard works. Gonna redo the drivers now. Drivers seem fine, gonna go for the system restore now. (edited by Anya on 07-13-04 08:23 PM) (edited by Anya on 07-13-04 08:30 PM) |

Whoa whoa whoa, did you try replacing the batteries first, before you went for system restore? It really could be just batteries, assuming you're on a wireless keyboard, since you said the batteries could be low. |

Well, I really don't like to do a system restore, but I only went back to 4pm today. It might be the batteries and if that's the case, I'll have to wait until later to get new batteries. |

I can't see faulty batteries causing THAT problem. If anything, the keys might just not respond if the signal's weak. Don't know how easy your keyboard is to clean, but I'd try that just to be safe - maybe the J key is stuck. Failing all that, see if you can bring it in somewhere if you have a warranty. |

Cleaning the interior of the keyboard should do the trick. The signal was probably interrupted by something in there.

I cleaned it before I started the computer and the receiver is just fine.

That was the funniest thing I've seen as far as hardware problems go XD When you want to have insta-drunk typing, just put in some lowcharged batteries into the keyboard |

OMG! Best hardware thread ever! I have a wireless keyboard and it pisses me off sometimes. It will act like the battery is dying and I can't type at full speed. The reciever is about...6 inches Northeast of where I'm sitting. I finally figured out the problem though. I noticed that it only happened when I smoke. Must get in the way of the signal. Oh, and one time it started doing it and I wasn't smoking. I had an Aquafina water bottle in front of it and it was messing it up. I'm definitely going back to non-wireless. My keyboard never leaves the desk so there's no reason for me not to have a wire one. Still have had no problems with my wireless mouse though so that stays. |

Always have spare batteries Anya, you don't want it to happen again. Lamps = dim light TV's = acts like they would explode... Yep, one TV was broken so it didn't get enough power. It was giving out really strange sounds. |

yeah, i had a brownout a few months ago. There was enough power to run my cousin's computer but because it was a brownout, you could actually see the monitor refresh

A problem similar to this happened to me when I had a Computer Knowledge test... I was doing an exercise on the computer when the keyboard became totally fucked up... A "?" appeared when I tried to do a "_"... (edited by Millennium Neko on 07-19-04 02:25 PM) |

I am assuming you use a Swedish keyboard Neko, the one that you you used during the test was probably an English one, so that would screw you up due to lack of familiarity. That used to happen to me when I first used a French keyboard . (edited by Gb boy on 07-19-04 07:28 PM) |

Best case of that happening is when I try to use a French keyboard. The differences aren't that major but there's shortcuts for accented letters and such... and on some of them there's an extra key along the lines of Ctrl/Alt. |
