Well let's just get this straight ..

What's the deal with this anime?

My friends and I have seen again and again that this anime / short movie is incredible, a 5 out of 5 masterpeice.

But, it's 30 minutes long.

Seriously, can a 30 minute long anime be "that" incredible?

It's more of a short film, really. I'm not sure about other regions, but the UK release was bundled with the award winning short about a cat

It seems that this is the background to the artists behind Voices of a Distant star.

The most powerful thing about voices was definately it's emotional significance. It places alot of emphasis on the relationship, and how tragic their seperation was. The effectiveness of this theme is what makes it stand out

I've heared a rumour about an alternative ending, where you see the couple re-united... Has anyone else heared anything about it?

I cried so much after watching that. I think the relative shortness makes it more emotionally bombarding. It has to be the saddest thing I've ever seen and I'll never watch it again.

Er, alternate ending? No, I haven't heard a thing about that...

It's really a great short movie though... especially for its length. It's very... dream-like. It's like watching a glimpse of someone's world encased in a dream. Through that dream you see this relationship unfold, and a story unfold... and wow. It's quite emotional, although that probably isn't something all people want in an anime. It almost reminds me of Grave of the Fireflies, but with a little less subtexts going on.

It really goes to show you that shows don't need to be 60+ hours to be great.

I've also seen it. It's a really nice anime, I've never seen any anime or movie for that matter, deliver so much and strong emotions in such a short time. Grave of the fireflies was sad, but it was too long so it got boring, and I almost felt a stronger connection with the characters in Voices of a Distant Star.
I got the version where the maker and his wife are the voice actors. It's very nicely drawn too.

I've saw it. And isn't only the strong emotions that makes this anime good, the art and the music makes it too.

I should watch Grave of the fireflies, everyone says it's very good.
