Emptyeye - It is. It has two slots, one for DS games and one for GBA games.

No idea whether you can pick which screen you want to play your GBA game on though.

You got one thing wrong: The Batterylife of the PSP for Games is not confirmed, it seems to be between 2 and 10 hours. (10 hours is for mp3 listening only, and thats cheap).

And what did someone once say: If Nintendo would biuld labtops and notebooks, they would be small as a papersheet and akku lasts for 10 hours and optimized what it is intended to do: Work.

Back to the topic at hand: I would like to see the PSP flop. 'cause it would teach Sony a lesson that to engage in the handheld market, you need battery-life and good games. (Neo Geo Pocket anyone? Some good games (Metal Slug, Sonic, KOF, Puzzle Bobble) and an insane Battery-life (about 40 hours).

GBA can play movies, althought not at very high quality and the carts can't have that much space. But it can...

Nintendo DS of course, The problem with Sony PSP will be the price. And Sony reminds me too much about Nokia and their n-gage now.

I don't think it will flop that much actually, Sony PSP probably will be more succeful than N-gage ever was.

As for PSP Sony seems just to be trying to make money overall sicne they're just making some fllashy handheld.
Where do you live? Yeah, some of the weaker brands cost about as much as I stated, and if you want good, Alkaline batteries for an 8 pack it's around 7 dollars. Also. Commas are good.

Not average, but...

According to the August 2004 issue of EGM...

Sony PSP has around 10 hours for playing games, eight hours for music, or two and a half horus for playing movies.

Nintendo DS' battery life isn't stated, so based on SP's battery life with the light on I estimated it to be about 10-12 hours.

Imoto - Maybe Sony should have all those games released onto the PSP.

(That would be a really good idea... arcade-perfect ports like a Metal Slug collection, Capcom collection, etc.)

I've had so much bad luck with Sony and Playstation and such good luck with Nintendo (other than regretting selling my SNES) so I'm probably going to buy a DS.

Oh, there's one more advantage the DS will have now that I think about it...

Time.

A lot of analysts are predicting that Sony will have to delay the PSP for a variety of reasons, so Nintendo might get a 2-3 month jump on them. Then again, Sony could choose to cut corners or the rumors might be bogus, but...

I live in PA , at the moment a pack of 2 AA energizer batterys cost around 4 bucks at least at the store next to my house. At the dollar store you can get a AA 4 pack for $1. Ive never tested to see which performs best but ill do a little bit of research on that, anyways battery life should be a high priority for Sony and Nintendo but, 10-12 hours is a little bit weak to me since I ride a bus for about an hour and a half every day to school so thats when ill mostly play my handheld.

Either way im seriously conflicted about which to get they both have their pro's and cons.

The PSP has upset many developers, recently. The factory price of the display that is used in the PSP is $350. This obviously indicates that the PSP will either be prohibitively expensive, or will feature a lower caliber display, as has been indicated by sources from around the development of the PSP.

Sony still won't confirm battery performance to developers either. The only information that has been released is that the movie industry has stated that two and a half hours is a minimum for movie playback.

Looking at this, the UMD drive will be working constantly, and the CPU will be working hard to crunch the numbers required for decoding media.

Depending on the amount of information that is loaded, and how often, the battery life can improve or decline. This seems to be the big trade off with the impressive new screen and the new media.

One other thing that developers are frustrated with is the quality of the games.
The PSP games on show were far more complex than the DS games, indeed, it's like comparing and N64 game to a PS2. But this is seen as the PSP's weakness. Developing games for the DS is going to be much simpler and more affordable than developing for the PSP.
The handheld market is still far too small for developers to risk making a game that requires a development team of the same size as a home format on a mobile game.

In the wake of E3, developers are favouring Nintendo's applied science to Sony's great experiment. They feel that Nintendo's DS is far more advanced than Sony's PSP because of the tried and trusted hardware, and simple development process.

As well, if Nintendo can sell a substantial number of DS units, it allows them to push back the GBA's successor and fine-tune that for its eventual release.

The DS isn't really replacing the GBA (as games for both will be released after the DS' release) but with the dual compatibility...

I heard thought that the Nintendo DS will not support old GB games, just GBA games...

It will take some time before GBA is dead after DS is released, Nintendo say that Nintendo DS is not a replacment for Gameboy. But it seems strange having yet another portable in their lineup..

Not 100% sure about that, didn't read about GB/GBC compatibility.

But GBA is certain, and if the carts fit...

They say that the DS isn't a replacement, but if the sales are astronomical then Nintendo might back away from that statement.

But even then it takes time before GBA games stop coming out.

The last GBC game was released 2 years after the GBA release right?

According to pictures of the slot, it looks like it's mainly built for GBA games, so I wouldn't expect GB/C compatiability.

That's what a GBA is for.

I would have to agree that the best generic brand of batteries ARE the Kirkland Signature...

I live in AZ and i can get a 48-pack for about 13 bucks.

But i dont think the next gen handhelds need AA's... just CD players and the like. They should have rechargables also.

And the DS is not backward compatible with GB/GBC games, just the GBA.
This was stated at E3.

There we go then.

To be honest, most people won't bitch and complain about no GB/C compatibility... since most people who buy it will have a GBA anyways. Pretty simple.

And I still have a working GB so...
