What's the best tool for it? I heard Pro Tools was good, and so was Cubase. What really is the best?

If Pro Tools can't do it, there's no reason you'll ever need it. Dunno if the free version (yes, free) works with XP, though.

I'm pretty sure it doesn't actually. ME/98 only I believe. And the full versions require assloads of RAM (256MB minimum, which is quite a bit I think). I personally use Cakewalk SONAR which I...um, acquired from my cousin for Christmas one year. He, in turn...acquired it from his friend. It works well enough for me. |

I just got Adobe Audition just, like, 10 minutes ago. Is that any good?

Uhm, the version I have is back when it was Cool Edit Pro. The multitrack bit, if it's still the same, is only four tracks. Although I think it might be useful if I ever start recording anything... I've got a four-track that I got for confirmation, so I could just use that for one or two things, dump it onto the comp, and keep going.

If it's Adobe, I'd say it's pretty good.

I think that he's thinking that you said Pro Tools doesn't work on XP because of your computer.

I suppose it could be, but, that doesn't make sense in the context...

No, if you check out the ProTools website, it specifically says that the free version is for 98/ME ONLY. It has nothing to do with his computer; it's just not designed for Windows XP. That said, I suppose you could TRY running it in XP, but neither I nor Protools make any guarantee that it'll actually work. And what do you need for a mixer? Do you plan to actually record guitar, bass, etc. or do mainly electronic music? |
