| I too enjoy watching storms, and I've sometimes been out cycling in thunder and lightening... Stupid, I know, but I needed to get home. There's something to be said about storms at night. The lightening lights everything up as bright as day for a few seconds. It's much better when it's directly overhead, because the sky is lit up every few seconds. I've seen a hailstorm before that totally blotted out the sun on the horizon, that was cool. And also, the night of the tropical storm made the sky black as night by 4pm, that was really scary for me at the time, being only five years old or so. |

| During spring break I went to Hiroshima and this earthquake struck. It was pretty bad from the looks of it afterwards. I was in 9th grade when this happened. I've also been in a hurricane once. The eye is weird, everything is as bright as day except tinted a light, greenish yellow colour and all around is a bunch of black in the distance. |

| There's a bit of unusual weather in the UK today... We've got 65mph winds and heavy rain, which is unusual for July. Because all of the trees are in full leaf, they're not prepared for this typically wintery weather, so many branches have come down. A few trees have even come down today, as well as power lines. 13,000 homes in the South East are without power. All in all, a very restless day, and a wet night. |

Brits are used to lots of rain... Think of the kind of rain that places like Seattle and Vancouver recieve, and you could be on the right train of thought  The southern softies aren't used to being without power, though... It's usually up north that the worst of the weather heads. |

| Back on July 22, 2003, we in Memphis had the most powerful storm in the city's history: http://www.srh.noaa.gov/meg/radarLoop.htm It blew through at 6 in the morning with sustained winds of up to 100 mph, broke power poles like chopsticks, caused large trees to uproot and fall (one right into a house a couple blocks from where I live), and caused the ground everywhere to be cluttered with debris. I remember reading later that on Germantown Rd (one of the main thouroughways in Cordova) a large tree fell, effectively making it a one-lane road. That was when rush hour was getting started up. The storm maintained its very strong winds for about half-an-hour. We were out of power for a day-and-a-half, but for some areas it was weeks before power was restored. Despite all the county-wide destruction that took place, it received little attention in the news media. The storm woke me up, and I remember noticing the power off. I looked outside, and it looked like a hurricane was blowing through. The trees were nearly sideways, water was swishing across the street, and I noticed a very greenish tint in the sky. I walked downstairs, turned on my NOAA weather radio, and noticed that the alert was on. I remembered that on the night before the weather report said it was only expecting a slight chance of thunderstorms. O_o It was interesting. I think severe weather's cool and exciting. Anything but sunny skies.  |

Been through a hurricane. The rain was so thick, it looked like someone was just spraying the windows with a hose. It was the middle of the night but when lightning hit it literally looked like noon. The electricity was out for almost a week. (82 1/2 hours to be exact.) Surprisingly, no damage, except to the trees. Whole place reeked of pine for a long time.  There was also ball lightning, way cool.Then there was the time lightning hit the driveway. Left a big black spot.  Pretty scary stuff.Also, recently (here in Alberta) it's been raining like hell. (Well, I doubt it rains in hell, but you get the idea.) We spent all yesterday driving. (Went exactly 1201.28 km, or 750.8 miles, just to give someone a ride home. ) The rain was so bad at some points, we could barely see an inch. We spent most of the time doing 70 km/h - the speed limit was 110. A tornado hit around here, but I was quite far away at the time. No official injuries, but some buildings and cars were damaged. (Not ours, thankfully. ) |

The other day, it's all bright and sunny out and then there's a flash. I just thought it was a light from a car or something, but then a loud thunderclap came after that. That usually doesn't happen here unless it's dark outside, but this time, it was so sunny out and not a dark cloud in the sky.  |

| I been in a tornado when I visited Kansas... I was seven. Well... It was a small one and I was inside of a house but it still counts! Thing started about noon, went down the road of where I was staying (My dad's second cousin's or something like that), and me being myself once it passed the house I peeked my head the door and watched it. Awsome sight, Espically when it went back in to the sky. Wicked cool looking.. From beginnning to end, the tornado lasted about a whole 10 minutes. Nothing got damanged. So its not really a scary weather story but when you're 7 and seen one too many tornado movies, just knowing one is outside is enough to scare the bejesus out of you. |

| Dude, this one time the wind was like so harsh and the rain was like pounding on the roof... and like I seen a cow fly through the air Eh... not really, but I seen a huge piece of a tree fly through the air once. By then, the street was flooded all the way up the drive-way and stuff... I kinda wanted to go swimming o.O But then again... I didn't want to get shocked by lightning in the dark night XD Has anyone ever gone swimming in the street? XDD _SuriBear_ |

| From most recent to prior: 1. There was a bad thunderstrom in our area. The electricity was off for 5 days, and we were one of the last neighborhoods they turned back on. The winds were quite fast, lots of trees were uplifted. Lots of lightning too. 2. The Tornado of Whenever It Was. The tornado raced through downtown Fort Worth, obiliiterating the Bank One Tower (which was where my dad worked at the time). When everything was over, my brother and my dad raced down there (30 minute drive, but there was a lot of trees on the road, so it was like an hour thirty when they got there. It also destroyed a church. Talk about an act of God! Still lots of damage, though. 3. I remember waking up in the middle of the night in a bathtub, because a hurricane for some odd reason hit the Gulf of Mexico and our little coast down there, and we were seeing some weather disturbances...tornados, high winds, etc. 4. It was on my birthday, after a teeball game, and it rained and hailed. I was frighten, because I was 6. And that's about it. |
