strange. I could swear i checked it before and didnt find anything.
damn, now i feel liek an ass because my virgin post made me look like a tard.

Edit: I checked it out again jsut now, tho. None of the hacks there are very powerfull. Mostly just text edits and property edits.

I really need a map and event editor.

I remember someone after the crash who was doing some major hack. He even drew the missing animation frames for Schala, and it looked good, but i can't remember his name (ChickenLump i think)

Aye, it was Chickenlump. He was working on some sort of playable Schala hack. I do not know what he is doing right now though. Have not heard from him in a few weeks.

I've been messing with some stuff here and there (all unreleased), nowhere near a full hack though.

Been offline for a few weeks, sorry bout that. Yes, I've been working on a playable Schala, just haven't had too much time to work on it this last month.... bleh...

Hacking Chrono Trigger is pretty easy, and maybe one day I'll make a full blown really nice hack. I too would like to see some non text edit only hacks of CT. Though this may mean I'll have to make one myself, I look forward to it. Just not right now.

I'm sure there are others working on making hacks for it, hopefully more hacks will materialize soon.

If you put together a quick barebones program, that would be good enough for me to use. I dont need a fancy GUI, as long as everything is working. I can use the other programs to edit stores and text. All I really need is something to Edit Maps and Events. The only real hard part i can forsee is how the game uses that code to determin where in the game you are (like when you save, what it says for your chapter deal). But that cant be THAT tough?

Ugh, im such a n00b

I do have a program I'm working on, but maps and events are beyond my meager 'skills'.
Sorry bout that, just stats and misc stuff. Just look a few threads back for Chrono Tweaker thread. Though from the sounds of it, It's not what your looking for, sorry bout that.

It sounds like you have big plans already though. That's good, planning out a hack ahead of time. May I ask what you have planned for it? I'm just interested is all, all I've seen lately is someone wanting to translate the entire text into Leet speak.... (I'd still play it though, just because I'm a CT fan.... )

I've recently started Radical Dreamers (The game that Chrono Cross was based on).

You start out much the same as chrono cross. You're Serge, ad you're with a girl named Kid. But in CC, The third member is someone random. Also, in CC, that part of the story is the intro, then it flashbacks, and you lead back up to that point. In anycase, in Radical Dreamers, the Thrid party member is Magus.

From what ive gathered so far, Magus and Kid met when Kid was 10 years old. She broke into Lynx's castle to rescue her adopted mommy or sister or something. Lynx killer her mom or sister, and was about til kill Kid, when Magus rescued her.. from what we learned in CC, her mom is lucca.

In any case.. The plot of Radical Dreamers is actually based in the same world as Chrono Trigger. Its set some 20 years after CT, and things have changed. For example, Lynx actually took over Guardia Castle and Moved in. He even single handedly defeated the entire Porre Army (you even find some skeletons of the soldiers in the castle).

But Ive already been drawing up new maps on graph paper. Writing new Event courses. Stuff like that. I've still got to finish Radical Dreamers.

Oh, and RD is an all text based game.. its like a choose your own adventure. if you havent played it, lemme know Via AIM, and ill send it to you.

7F0000 is the Storyline Counter memory variable. It determines where you are in the game, and the order of events you can trigger. Most of the next 200h bytes are flags that determine which things you have done, such as introducing Frog to Spekkio or giving Marle her pendant back (which is both a flag and a storyline point). And at least the next 200h bytes after that are reserved for working variables (what position your character is on the map and so forth).

Events are decoded to 7F2000. I do not know a hard limit yet, but it appears more stuff is kept around 7F3700, so events are probably no larger than 1700h bytes. The Guardia throneroom has the largest event script I have seen yet, at more than 1500h bytes.

Here is some information I posted to Gamefaqs recently.

It can be difficult to get past the Arris Dome password entry, especially if you are using a keyboard. It is checking for three buttons, L, R, and A. (Technically, it checks for L and then R when the A button is pressed).

While one could remap the controls, that is really not an optimal solution, since you would have to do it every time you went in the room. The walk through walls code has pretty much the same problem, and could allow you to do things out of order (which disrupts the story flow, even if only slightly).

These codes are probably a better solution than either of those, since it works the same way as normal except that it skips the L and R checks.

F69B3010
F69B3103

It should allow the game to otherwise work flawlessly, and only requires that you press the A button for that switch.

Cart users can try:

FDB7-EAFC
D7B7-EA9C

...but I have not tested these.

The technical explanation behind this is that you are changing the event code for that room, such that it jumps past the checks for the L and R buttons.

Starting ROM address is F69B30
10 is the jump forward command.
03 is the number of bytes to jump.

Well, Ive played through Radical Dreamers a couple times and got a couple endings. Its not a very vast game.

So Im thinking about not doing it witht hat story. Instead, Im thinking about making up an all new story. The basic premise is that you play initially in the year 1020 AD. Instead of time traveling, you travel between Dimensions. But the map will be the map from Chrono trigger. I concider Chrono Cross complete Crap, along with it's story, so the plot will most likely counter alot of the points made in that game.
But in the game Im scripting, youu go basically go between teh alternate endings of Chrono Trigger. Theres a dimension where the Lizard people thrived.. One where Chrono is an Evil King.. etc. One of the dimensions will be the world that Lynx takes over, and is described in Radical Dreamers. Im going to start writing up the story's basic plot over the next few days.

Other than the Zophar ones...the only thing I remember was that someone made a slight music hack to it and dubbed it 'Spooky New Music' for the hack.

I wouldn't mind seeing a full out hack of any RPG, to be honest, but the thing is it'd take forever I would think.

That would be Evil Peer himself.
You can find that and all his other work at his homepage.

It wouldn't take all that long as long as you knew how to do what you wanted and what you wanted to do. Creativity blocks, I find, are the worst delay in any project (lack of free time comes second, for some people, feel free to reverse those two. )

The patch is not really a hack so much as it is an example. It was requested of me in relation to a discussion about SPCs on the old board.

CT has so much potential for a good hack. One could do wonders with the town/world maps.

Yet other than learning about SNES assembler language, I don't really see the value of a CT hack.

Don't get me wrong, I love the game, but RPGs moreso than any other genre have a variety of Game Makers that you can use to make your own RPG from scratch, some of them free, some not. Anything you'd want to hack in, you could do just as easily from scratch with one of these tools, I would think.
