the operation of division is not defined when the divisor is 0...that is why division by 0 is not defined and thus you can't do 0/0 nor x/0

Since you can set the variables ("letters") to anything while setting up the equation, more than one variable can equal the same thing, and thus variables can equal eachother, and thus they can be the same although the letters are different.

This is pretty basic.
