Currently listening to Powerman 5000 - Transform. Bought this album yesterday and I love it. Its much better than 'Tonight The Stars Revolt', its a bit more punky and lyrically sound. | |||

Metallica - Damage Inc. It's the eighth and final track on the Master of Puppets album. It's fucking incredible. I think I said somewhere before that the theme of the Master of Puppets album was Control. This track is flipping the tables. Instead of Metallica playing the part of the victim, they are instead the controller. In short, it's about violence, random killings, and total and the complete of destrucion of society. It starts off with one of thier famous sound-openings, with a guitar using something like a wah pedal to create a pretty sound. This all goes to shit very quickly, and it gets replaced with the fastest BPM riff on the album. It's pretty much heavy all the way through. No breaks for acoustic or harmonized or soft parts, just straight heavy metal. Very fast and impressive solo by Hammet near the end. Equally impressive guitar riffs by Hetfield playing in the background. I think Hammet's voice fits the song perfectly. It's dark and evil, and while he still might classify as screaming, it's far from a shitty nu-metal scream, mainly because he actually sings notes while he does it. I can't listen to this track last. After all the aggression they show in the song, the silence that follows it seems simply out of place. ... Yeah, I think I've covered enough Metallica songs now I intend to pick up The Darkness album soon, since I keep fucking hearing them on the radio. Hell, I went over to a friend's house to jam and he ended up teaching me that. I'll see if there's much to say about the other tracks on there, and if so I'll cover some next time I listen to them. |

wite, you certainly know your shit when it comes to Metallica. That reminds me, I heard someone say that Sonata Arctica's version of "Fade to Black" had a better guitar solo than the original. What are your thoughts? I'm currently listening to Maroon 5's "Songs About Jane". I had "This Love" stuck in my head so I decided to download it. Then I just figured I would download the whole thing to see if it was any good. Well, I'm enjoying it immensely. It's really really good. Now I expected them to be from the UK because they're really good but I was surprised to find out that they hail from Los Angeles. Imagine my surprise. I guess there is hope for American mainstream music these days after all. They kind of remind me of Coldplay in some aspect but with a...how do you put it....funk twist to it? Ah, you'll have to listen to it to know what I'm talking about. But yes, very great music and every song on the cd is great. (Gotta love those.) If you've heard "This Love" and liked it, I pretty much guaruntee you that you'll like the rest of the album as well. |

Frank Sinatra: All My Tomorrows I came in the room rapping ("And we be beatin' infinity over sacred drums, spinning funk-like myrr until jesus comes..."), then loaded my 205 MP3 Jazz playlist on winamp and oooh baby! |

I'm listening to Dodheimsgard - Bluebell Heart Good NWOBM...It has very interesting aspects, such as very deathy guitar riffing. The drums and vocals are a toss up between dark and black metal. I just wish that the band had worked harder on the doomy aspects of it. |

Originally posted by Legion Listening to it right now. I think it's an okay cover, but it really doesn't bring enough to the table to make me understand why they chose not only to record it but also put it on a CD. To be honest, it's rather futile trying to bring something to song. There's already two harmonized guitar parts, a deep and grinding voice conveying the message of the song, a classical key and set of chord changes, and an impressive guitar solo. By comparison, what the hell do you plan on introducing to the song? Before I cut into this, I have to admit that the instrumentation is a bit better. This is most likely because Metallica recorded the orignal on a tape back in the 80's, so I can't really give any huge credit to the guys, but it still does sound nicer in a few parts. The first thing I noticed is that it's noticeably faster. I double-checked this by playing it against against the original, and it's a bit faster all around. It's really obvious during the verses how much faster the song is than it's original. It's odd to hear such a huge change in tempo. I personally think it takes away some of the solemnity of the song, but that might be beacuse I'm so used to hearing it at a slower tempo. I don't like the singer's interpretation at all. It's like he's trying to turn it into a very art-type metal song. He doesn't sound as sincere about it as Hetfield does. His huge stress on the words "He's gone" sorta took away some of the mellowness of the song. I think a darker voice is in order for a song about suicide. The lead guitar uses more distortion, while the rythm seems to have less bass. The distortion isn't really any better or worse, just different. I'm used to hearing the bassy rythm guitar, and I sorta miss the deeper sound, but I think it's still okay. Lastly, they cut the huge solo at the end. It was just a huge disappointment. At the very least play it verbatim and leave it in. It just isn't the same song without that solo. Like I said before, bringing something to this song really is pretty futile. The Ride the Lightning album sold how many copies, again? I don't know the number off the top of my head, but I'm sure it's pretty high. It's saying that you can improve on something that a few million people worldwide thought was good enough to run out and buy, not only right after it came out, but on to today. You should be expecting to fail from the start. All in all, this isn't a terrible cover by any means. Thinking about Limp Bizkit's Faith is pretty dreary, and I do have anything nice thing to say about KoRn's cover of One. I just think that there's no reason to cover the song. |

Seether ft. Amy Lee-Broken I've got one word for you; BEAUTIFUL! Not touchingly beautiful like "My Immortal" by Evanescence, although this does contain Evanescence into the mix. This is not heavy at all like the 2 have been known to be, but it still "blends in like a good wieve". I just got the Punisher soundtrack today BTW. Pretty good so far. |

np: N.E.R.D.: "She Wants to Move" (Native Tongues Remix) Oooh, more of the goodness from the people that make the songs you love. I think it's all live instruments, too... beat's mostly a tribal drum beat (think kinda like "I Want Candy"... ), bass, and an acoustic guitar. And I swear they have Q-Tip on here, too. I'll have to double-check where I downloaded this. (does so) Holy fuck balls. Q-Tip's on here. As is Common. And De La Soul. And Mos Def. Oh, you're downloading this bad boy. |

Kiss - God Gave Rock and Roll To You My friends and I first heard this song in the movie "Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey". Not only does it remind me how good Kiss actually is, but of my friends. This is definitely one of my favorite songs of all time. |

np: DJ... erm... Mike: "Change Clothes (The World Has Turned and Left Me Here)" Yeah, ANOTHER mash-up of the Black Album. Yes, it's based off of Weezer. No, it's not called the Black and Blue Album... that's just the sub-title. It's really called Jay-Zeezer... yeaaaah. It a little rhythm-deficient at times (hey, the guy who did this hated rap before he started), but at times REALLY inspired... it's not just the beat + Jay-Z's vocals. He blends in some of the original Weezer song, which works quite well. I'm almost starting to think I can do this. (I think it's actually a work-in-progress... only six of the planned fourteen songs are done.) |

Skinny Puppy - Blue Serge Disappointing compared to all that Skinny Puppy had done before. Generic in a number of ways...doesn't have the same layer of detail and menace as all previous material. The Process is a let-down, but here's hoping for the new album (May 25th), The Greater Wrong of the Right. It'll feature both Danny Carey (drums) and Wayne Static (2nd vocals) on the track "Use Less". Hmmmm..... Interesting..... |
