Post what song you're listening to, how you found out about them, and maybe a few other details.

As for me, I'm currently listening to Franz Ferdinand. Kwan himself turned me on to this group. It's music from Scotland (if I remember right.) Anyway, it's really really good stuff. The song I first heard, and the one I recommend you listen to first, is "Take Me Out". It's got a really good beat to it. Oh, and this would classify as rock music to. And not that new age rock that sucks either.

So if you're serious about finding some rock that's good/new, then check them out.

I've been listening to "Amazing Grace" performed live by Dropkick Murphy's literally all afternoon.

Don't ask me why, it's just catchy.

(restores this thread to its rightful place)

Same rules apply, too.

np: Psychedelic Furs: "The Ghost In You"

I'm obsessed with this song lately... It sounds like it really should've been in an 80's movie... and I wouldn't be surprised if it was (but I haven't seen it anywhere). Richard Butler's just got a perfect voice for it, too. Counting Crows covered this for Clueless but this version's better. Theirs is a lot more folksy (for lack of a better word).

Anyone else addicted / ever heard of the following:

Hybrid Moments by the Misfits

Blood and Whiskey by Dropkick Murphys

Idiots Are Taking Over by NOFX

they seem to dominate what I listen to, minus everything else.

Metallica - One [07:27m/256Kbps/44KHz]

One of Metallica's more emotional pieces. Not quite violent angry, like Damage Inc., but more insane anger.

It's based on a character from some Vietnam War book (I forget which). The guy steps on a landmine and loses his sight, speech, hearing, both his legs, and both his arms, basically disconnecting him from the world. Then he's forced to lie in a hospital bed and is fed through the tube in his mouth. He's no longer a part of the world, making him "One" with himself. Lovely, eh?

Although Hammet's solo in this piece sounds impressive, it's actually not the hardest bit of the song. Hetfield's machine-gun-rapid playing underneath the solo has no technique or trick to it and is insanely fast, yet the man plays it perfectly. The only reason Hetfield isn't the lead guitarrist is because Hammet can't sing

Neil Young - Keep on Rockin' In The Free World

Very good song, but somehow I think that the version my dad's band does is a *wee* bit better than Mr. Young's. But I might be biased.

Not a huge Young fan but it's a classic.

Nightwish - Gethsemane

I know for a fact that some of you have heard of them before. Especially those in irc. I have to give jasukan full credit for turning me on to this band. I forgot where they were from (Was it Iceland?) but they make some KICK ASS music. Think Symphony of the Night with lyrics. In fact, I'd say that this music is BETTER than the SotN soundtrack.

After jasukan sent me a couple of their mp3's, I downloaded a whole swarm of their stuff and I love it all. Very very good music with lyrics that are actually meangingful and interesting. And who doesn't like symphonic rock?

witeasprinwow, what are your thoughts? Symphony X or Nightwish?

as a guitarist, i'll have to disagree to that. all that hetfield is talented at is being able to strum fast, it doesn't take much. kirk is the lead guitarist because he is an insane guitarist who can write and play great solos, james isn't because he is a rhythm guitarist and can't play solos worth crap.

anyways, i'm listening to die with your boots on by iron maiden

i should peform this at a gig and wear boots! ahahhaah! get it?!

Have you seen James' riffs in Blackened? He plays what is quite easily the most difficult riff out of all Metallica songs. To add to that, out of all the times I've heard him, I've only seen him mess up once, and that was because one of the on-stage flames went off beneath him, so it really wasn't his fault And James does play a couple Metallica solos, although I forget which ones... I know for sure that Nothing Else Matters is James, though.

Furthermore, the majority of Kirk's riffs are simply technique. Either you have it or you don't. It doesn't take much speed to do fingertapping.

For the record, out of all the guitarrists I know in person, all of them (Except me ) can play Kirk's Blackened and One solos, but neither of them can play James' riffs in those songs.

Legion, I haven't heard enough about Nightwish to say if they're better than Symphony X. All I know is that sometimes thier singer gets a little grating, and sometimes they act a little to artsy for thier riffs to belong in a metal band.

well i guess i was ignorant to the fact that hetfield is damn good at what he plays, i guess it just leaves it to a matter of personal tastes.

i'm listening to crazy train by ozzy osbourne, this particular one is live with randy rhoads, one of my influences. i just love all those licks he crams in.

I should make it clear that everything I say has "In my opinion" in front of it. Hammet is a damn good guitarrist too, and I can see why you would like him

Right now:

Papillion by Hitomi Shimatani

i first heard this track over three years ago...and finally acquired it when I bought the CD just last month. I looked for it during the three years but I didn't remember the track to well (i just remembered the title but not who sang it) internet searches didn't help either so yeah...when I hear the track as I was playing I went...OMG...

anyways, this is a nice track--good beat to it and it I listen to it to get a drive to do something going
