Fuck you too.

Not like I'd really have a choice in the matter if, in fact, they did pull a draft on me. Hey...if anything else I'd get that 'die with honor' bit...and if I ever did get drafted and survived I'd have that on my resume for the rest of my life. It goes a long way.

I just prefer not to ever be in it, if I can. I'm really passive about looking for trouble like that...I'd rather just live my life out peacefully...you know?

You can't go wrong with having a peaceful attitude, the problem is a peaceful attitude won't do too well in a world where peace is frowned upon by the instinct people have to be violent. War sucks, but it's a part of humanind, there's always gonna be anger somewhere in the world, and we've got to deal with it the best we can. I say have a passive voice, but remember to speak softly and carry a big stick at the same time, TR did.

Snopes.com has proven this unlikely, at best.

Suffice to say that to have a full draft up and running by next spring, they would have to start perparations NOW, amongst other things.

A couple quick notes for all you "DOWN WITH BUSH DOWN WITH WAR DEMOCRATS 4 EVA!!!!" zealots (Because I know you're out there): 1. While there IS draft legislation currently in Congress, it's been in limbo since early 2003, and shows no signs of leaving that limbo anytime soon. The people who introduced the bills are both Democrats (There's strike one for your Anti-Bush fanboy/girlism). 2. You may have noticed that John Kerry has yet to push "WAR IS BAD DOWN WITH BUSH" as a position for his candidacy for president. That's because he feels the samw way about the war as Bush does. There's strike two for "No Bush = No more war"

In short: I don't like the draft either, but Bush will ultimately have little-to-nothing to do with its (Unlikely) reinception. So stick that in your anti-Bush enema and shove it where the sun don't shine.

Fact, the Roman empire did not fall due to the loss of troops on an over spread force. They shrunk the borders of the empire to accomadate the costs. They hired German and Eastern Provinces mercenary forces to patrol the now decreased borders. Problem with mercenaries, you can pay them off easily, thus the borders were not properly defended. The barbarians from the North, the Goths and other Germans invaded as they were forced from their homes by Atilla. Then the Vandals in the South turned and invaded the empire. It all ended when Adocer the German became Emperor. Also, the fact that most of the land became infertile in Italy from over-cultivation cost a lot of money. You know grain imports...etc. And there are other reasons, but they get a little wishy-washy.

A little way to clear up some historical fiction that those who do not know cook up to explain something.

There was also the economic difficulty of the world's first (if I'm correct, which I might not be) experience with inflation and deflation of currency, the resulting imbalance, which relates to the over-cultivation point, left Rome without proper funds to sustain her empire.

Also I'd like to retract my earlier statement of American troops being spread across the world being a testament to how victorious we've been, it might have been better worded as, our troops being spread across the world just shows how much we're attempting to influence the world through our military prowess. It's pretty easy to get a politician to sign a bill with a gun to his head, just ask the SS.

Emptyeye: And there you go. If Bush came out tomorrow and said "We're having the draft next year", Kerry can start writing his victory speech.

Hey, people dodged the last draft and ended up here.

Yea. I know. I just consider the fact that whatever happens locally in my life is all I'll ever have to deal with. For some people that is completely a reality...I mean they might never have to hear about war or whatever in their lives because it will simply never apply to them in their lives...that's what I'm hopeful for...but I'm not daft about the fact that people in the world want to hurt other people because they've been hurt or FEEL they've been hurt.

Sort of like if a little boy broke a girl's doll, the girl punches the kid in the nads. Same for the Twin Towers only on a much, much higher scale.

There are bigger issues in the world today than who bombs who. People should shut the fuck up about who they want to kill and start looking at the fact that we're killing the world. Not from a-bombs and tank shells, but from other facts.

On the topic of the SS: One thing that pisses me off is when Jewish organizations force upon old men who were death camp workers deportation. It absolutely disgusts me. Many of these people ran away, changed their names, shunned their past, left their home, their family...EVERYTHING behind to start a new life away from the horror. Now, people come hounding them down like dogs, declaring them evil for something that happened more than half a century ago. I say let the old men stay. They are grandfathers, or greatgrandfathers now...With established families and friends.

Hiryuu: America is completely reactionary, no matter what happens, like an enemy tank driving over Flippy the army mascot dolphin, there are going to be people pissed off. This is one of the reasons America is a declining state.

Whoa whoa, I'm not saying the SS are bad people now... If you'll recall Hitler purged his forces of the SS and their associates in order to further his efforts at ruling Germany. The SS was just a loyalist device used by Hitler to GAIN control of Germany, not to actually control it. If anything they were betrayed by Hitler and deserve to be lauded as heroes for opposing him. My remark about the SS was intended to show that political control of a country can be gained through force, as the SS did with Germany. They weren't Semite-murdering Nazis, just members of the party who did what Hitler told them to. You're absolutely right about people judging others based on their past, it shouldn't happen. I was just trying to use an example from history to show why our occupation of Iraq might lead to full US military control someday, though the SS were allied with Hitler they were also killed by him, and rightfully the members fled to change their ways because of Hitler's betrayal.

Okay now, just because someone says we shouldn't hunt down these people that commit some pretty attrocious crimes 50 some years ago doesn't mean we should turn around and start proclaiming them as heros. I totally agree that we need to let the past rest and not overly disturb these people. It's not right for groups to go in and uproot these people from their established lifestyles, but time does not excuse the fact that they, if only for a while, supported quite possibly the most evil person ever. They don't deserve to be harrassed now but they certainly should not be raised to a level which they did not obtain.

Wow, this topic is getting way off topic. someone bring this back around.

Once again though I really doubt this would happen Bush would get hell if he ever did something of the sort.

I completely agree.
If they want me to go to war, I would say "Fuck America, they never did that much for me, I'm moving to Canada" (America's really not as "Free" as they like to make it sound, but it is still true that it is much better than a many other places).

but don't you need your passport to leave the border? if you don't fly, i would think they do check on the ground as well... so i don't believe leaving the country is going to help... but i guess you would leave before the official draft takes place?

anyways, i hope i "win" the lottery if there is one
