Yea, I read about this over a year ago in Popular Science. It sounded pretty cool. However, I think it's also pretty unnecessary. I mean, don't we need to find out more about our own planet first?(the earth's waters remain highly undiscovered) Also, where the hell will the thing travel to? We can't really go anyplace except the moon. (how exciting) We also should be investing our money into developing some new form of energy.

Interestingly, the current "Story arc" in the daily comic strip Foxtrot deals with Jason Fox attempting to win the X Prize. Stangely, I hadn't noticed this thread until I noticed this fact...
