| Yea I was gonna post a thread on this about a week or two ago when they had the first shot of it on MSN.com. I dunno...I guess that means that we have a new form of transportation that won't be used a lot until we actually have a decent application for it. I mean what...if they're going to have sub-orbital flights...I guarantee you they won't beat out in market versus a normal plane or car trip in terms of expense.  So I just figure this would be considered a 'beta' stage for this. |

| Well, when airplanes started to go up, those were pretty expensive and only for the rich, and nowadays, almost anyone can fly. Same goes for cars, trains, and so forth. Give it time, and the price will go down...of course, we might be older when that happens, but it'll eventually happen. | |||

| Yea...like I said, until there's application for it or the expense goes down...it definitely won't be something we see anytime soon. I'd probably give 20 or 30 years (unless we have a science age or something soon) before we even think about seeing something like this in decent expense. | |||

| And at any rate, they have to launch it again within two weeks, then they'll be able to win the X Prize and then go from there. This is all their money that they are funding for this whole mission, since the Space Program doesn't want to risk the money, the man power or the time. I mean, not yet anyway. | |||

They'll be able to ship things in no time, around the world, where before it would take days or even a week to get something, say from here to Austrilia. | Well, as long as the US supports other country's attempts in space travel, then that would be interesting. They need to work closely with other nations with active space programs that have or will have the capability to launch vehicles to space in the next decade ie: Canada, Japan, India, Russia, European Union, China, etc. This would speed up the world's space programs mega-quick. Frankly, space is the frontier of mankind that we should be working on, sadly it would require a more global, non-central economy and total world peace to really be pulled off. |

| Yea, the one that was tested does have there seats in it. It was a requirement to have three seats for the X Prize. I thought at first that the test flight only had one seat in it. | |||

i could swear there was a thread on this sometime ago...or was it this thread?  anyways, this is interesting..the first privately funded space vehicle...this isn't a bad way to get up to space...however, there isn't much you can do with this vehicle however, sure it has three seats...but what about luggage? but i guess this is a start...anyways, i don't believe space travel as a vacation or even a ride will happen until i'm old (old probably is 50+) |

| This may sound outrageous to some, but the best way I think to get the average Joe into space is this: Lower taxes by 99% (the average American has to work till about the 4th of July to pay off all his taxes). Abolish the welfare-warfare state. Abolish NASA. Now that you've removed the burden, private enterprise can flourish. Unless one thinks that such activity ought to be banned, we should sit back and see what private investment does and how the market reacts. The problem with NASA is that it scoops up resources for space into a politicized bureaucracy that gives out its contracts to companies that hire its former employees. Private enterprise is so much better at allocating resources for various things, because it receives a constant feedback from the market. Yes, indeed, the average American has to work until the July 4th to pay off all his taxes for the year: http://www.house.gov/paul/tst/tst2004/tst070504.htm Don't you think that would make private development of space more difficult? Anyway, another problem of NASA is that it came out in an age when government was perceived as the solution to life's problems (1930's-70s). Unlike in aviation, there was little private development in space, because of that public perception. As we saw on June 21, the private capability is there. We in fact saw it much improved over the government, considering it took Scaled Composites less than a tenth of the cost per launch for the space shuttle to build the entire SpaceShipOne. I think the public expectation that space is a matter of government policy could change in the near future. The space industry will initially develop as contests and thrill flights into sub-orbital space. As we get more launches per year, the cost of that will go down, and businesses will start aiming for the orbital area of space, and that is when things'll get interesting.  |

| I say we just sit back, relax and wait for World War III to arrive. That'll do all the abolishing Beneficii posted. Afterwards, we make sure a drunk bastard gets a nice nuclear missile and let him convert it into a warp capable space ship. Launch at the appropriate date and things will go jus' smooth. |
