I never sat through one of those commercials. I've seen them but put it this way... if it was a pyramid scheme, it would be shut down by now. Obviously it uses some loopholes or there's 500 catches. |

Those things are always on basic TV with the antenna and all. Especially during the day when the stations don't have anything else to play. So I end up watching them. Some of them I would get just for the hell of it . Maybe they're like those shopping channels, or are those not a scam? I never ordered anything off the Shopping Network. I don't know anyone who has either

As I've said, my mom almost constantly ordered stuff off of QVC (One of those "shopping networks"), and she's always been satisfied. Or as my dad said about a plunger-esque thing mom ordered from there, "It was the stupidest thing ever...until it worked." So yeah. |

Bella: PAX? (I know a lot of PAX stations have to air infomercials during most of the day, which tells you a lot about the situation there.) The more informercials a station has, the more financial difficulty they're in. Right? |

Yeah, PAX has a lot of them almost all day. I'm guessing it is financial difficulties. PAX has some run down programs Well just really old ones. They have America's Funniest Videos, old school style back with that guy from Full House . Most of the local stations have nothing else to air too. FOX never airs infomercials. From what I've seen. Most air them at night though or during the day after all their cartoons are done airing. Which is usually around 10 or 11 AM |

If nothing else, it's a way to pay for stations. I mean the only exception would be something like a really wealthy station or a publicly funded PBS station...you're gonna see them regardless. Dunno if they work, but it's a way to solicit to the globe...just it is for an internet popup...it's bound to work on a few people. |

PBS would not air infomercials. They usually just have an off-air period if they don't have 24h programming. Ours do.

Yea...I said that. Since they're already being funded by everyone in the local areas there really isn't any need for infomercials to be broadcast on it.

I don't think it works all that well when their on a network of their own, but thrown into some sortg of context on a network can work wonders. Like on the food network having infomercials about different food related products. I know that whenever I see something like that i'm always like: "Oh! I want that" but then when you see the price it gets different. Yo go from wanting it to being: "Oh! It's THAT much! Nevermind..."

Originally posted by Colleen because they're public broadcasting and only accept donations, no adds at all. No clue why, it's pretty stupid if you ask me. Oh well, it attracts some people... |

I think they're really annoying. I've only seen like three or four things I'd ever buy from an infomercial but I forget to write down the phone numbers. |
