I wouldn't be surprised if they had a "10" panel to put in place of the 9 if that happens, Milly. (In case you're wondering, almost every gas price board in Canada is 3 digits, but made for prices like 79.9 or 86.4. We use that tenth of a cent.)

I remember when Chris and I first met and gas was at .99 cents. Of course, that was the cheap gas. Now it's at $1,91 where I go. We get it a bit cheaper because we're right by the port and the gas factories and what not. But still. I only use my car for work, which is about $20.00 every two weeks, but then there's Chris' car, that we use for everything else.

Here it depends on what side of town, time of day, and time of year. If you're on the side where all the students are at, it's reached about $1.99/gal, if not, about $1.79/gal. Mid day gas is typically cheaper, summer gas is more expensive.

Actually, that was in 1998, the fall of. But then again, it was the cheap gas. Other prices were about 1.15 or so, give or take. They have radio stations here giving away free gas. |

I got my Golf in 98. At the time, I was paying 45.9cents/L for diesel Gasoline was 19.9cents/Liter (gas price war) Gas is now 98.9cents/L here and diesel is 75.9cents/L ...... Solution, homemade biodiesel or veggie conversion kit for diesel powered car. I'll start a post today about it. Finally , good discussion. |

it's times like these I miss my VW Jetta. it had good mileage. My current car (2002 Mercury Sable) is pretty good, but when I can afford it, hopefully they have a practical alternative ('cause hybrids and electrics just don't cut it. I'd rather something that lasts longer than electric and doesn't use natural gas or gasoline) :o? Oh yeah, for those that don't know, even the natural gas has gone up significantly in price. Not sure the exacts 'cause I don't buy that stuff, but it ain't just gasoline, it's natural gas too. Where's my water-powered car, dammit!? Or solar powered. I live in Phoenix, AZ so we always have sun to power a car. lol. electric with solar power attachment would work prolly. it'd prolly suck for pickup, though :o( and god knows I love my pickup :oD VROOOM!

Gas is so cheap in the US.. and you guys don't even know it. Gas here costs over a dollar per litre (maybe even more than $1.5).

Or just kill that last 1/10th of a cent and round it. Zem: My thoughts exactly. Get some solar panels and bigass capacitors. The hell with an engine, just put an electric motor on each wheel. When there's sun, the solar panels would supply most of the power; when it's dark the capacitors take over (and a backup battery or two). Perhaps even attatch generators to the wheels too to gain some of the energy back (and if it's totally dead, you can just push it ). Of course, you can always just plug it in to charge up. It'd be an expensive project, but hella worth it if you did it all efficiently. |

Gas prices are about to creep up over $2.00 here in South Florida. I've heard rumors that it will be as high as $3.00 a gallon during the height of summer.

Yes, Erk, gas companies do this thing called price fixing. It is where based on their total sales of the day, they will raise or lower the price. I saw today a gas station changing its sign to account for $1/litre or more costs... |

SOMETIMES I see a change happen during the day, but it's quite rare. Now, back a few years ago in Montreal... we had something called the Gas Wars or something to that extent. Long story short, gas stations were literally going insane, dropping prices (I'm sure you could get gas for 50-60 cents a litre depending on the day, and I wouldn't be surprised if it was LESS) and basically going to war with each other. So if the Ultramar had their gas at 56 cents, the Esso across the street would go to 55. And so on. I forget what stopped it but I think many wrists were slapped. Feel free to correct me on the details (Blades?). |
