I use Opera. For everything.

Although just to piss someone off I'm using [er, nuking] Firefox for two whole fucking weeks.

It's going to be complete hell [I hate it already] but hey, once I"m done I get to earn more points for opinion.

After all, I've used AOL's, IE's, Opera's [<3] and this piece of trash they call Firefox...

But still, those statistics are missing the margin of error [probably a lot greater than you'd think] and such. There should be some official poll or something

Well, it's annoying to login with this name I have... but that's all what I find annoying about this name.

But well, I had it for a week and a day now. I maybe should change back.

Never done it, never will do it.

Also, the fact that the thread title isn't there when posting a new thread [duh] doesn't seem to cross their mind.

Jesus... there's about 5 extra lines when making a new thread, how can you NOT notice?

And it's exactly that attitude that makes me extremely less willing to check other browsers if I had a post layout. One browser is NOT better than the other. As long as the browser you're using works for what you need, then it's fine. Having Mozilla does not make you a better person, or a better programmer, or a better hacker, or a better acmlm-boarder... Get over yourself.

As far as checking other browsers compatibilty: Until I see it as a rule here, I really don't care.

Oh it's not a rule per say, but if it doesn't work in other browsers, you run the risk of getting it deleted

Xkeeper: That attitude is very very annoying, stop it.

Well, it's not an attitude.. IE DOES contain security holes, exploits, and other MAJOR problems that Microsoft don't really tend to as they should.. This is not to say Firefox and the like do not have exploits, but rather.. If a problem in them is found, and reported..
You'll see it fixed in a short time usually.. Where as with Microsoft, you'll be lucky to ever see them "patch" the problem..
Which leads me to my other point, the patches they make to fix one problem, always breaks something else..
So there is always a loophole, something that people can use to download Spyware onto your computer without you knowing, or worse..
It's because of things like this, that I've come to look for other browsers..
Also, if you think I'm just blowing steam, do a spyware search on your computer if you use IE,
you may be unpleasently surprised at the results.. Just browsing the internet can be harmful with IE, where as with another browser, you'll be a lot safer..I DO consider someone misinformed, stubborn, or something else if they INSIST on using IE..
I understand why people use it, because it works.. But that's no excuse for the issues the software contains..

The whole thing isn't as clean cut as "what you prefer" you see..
Because IE has glaring problems no one wants, bad things that put your computer at risk.
Can you honestly say someone should "get over themselves" for wanting to stay secure and being informed over the problems?

I never did that.
I think this happens because some boards like phpBB has a "Subject" field in the reply page. It's stupid anyway. Why the hell someone is going to put a subject in a reply...

The data is placed on wootest.net, true. But this data is my layout's stylesheet, which is ONLY LINKED TO FROM THIS BOARD, so effectively only board users will see it; not saying all board users will see it, but noone outside of the board should load it. I don't have access to this server's logs so I can't check those.

As I said, I don't require anyone to use IE, Lynx, Firefox, Safari, Mozilla, OmniWeb, Opera, etc, etc. I'm just saying it's COMMON SENSE to check in as many browsers as you can. As long as you stick to standards, things will mostly work beautifully, but not everyone can do this, and in fact some things here deny using pure standards, because this board does not adhere to any particular HTML version.

Again, does having Mozilla make you a better -whatever-? No. Does still using IE keep up IE's market share and make thousands of web designers worldwide, and a few dozens of layout designers over here, believe that we should only design for IE? Possibly, and it's a risk I don't want to take.

Netscape 4 held up the entire development of the industry because they never released any other official version, so people had NS4 as the lowest common denominator. NS4 got old, but people still could not use new standards because a lot of people still used NS4. IE saved us from this by making it a feature to comply with the newer standards. Now however IE is the one holding us up.

Your ignorance is the size of a bus, and I feel sorry for you. I realize ofcourse a lot of our arguments can sound like IE flaming, but I hate ANYTHING holding up the development of new stuff. This is very much that, and some people won't see it for a long time. I looked past it for years.

Then, ofcourse, The Sage of Time brings up several great points that might convince you if you're selfish and won't hear the "it helps the rest of us" arguments.

Read through all arguments, and make up your own mind. Just remember that noone listens to the nutcase in the old Beetle whining that it uses too much gas. They'll just tell him to get a newer car.

You see, that's funny, because I just tested on a 200MHz I have around, and it was actually just as fast as IE on ALL pages I tested.

Sorry if my memory fails me (I'm really not being facetious here), but wasn't your computer the one that crashed in explorer (the file browser, not IE) and stuff? I seem to recall you having lots of problems with it.

You seem to go all out and want totalitarian control of your browser. You might want to have picked Mozilla, which has TONS of more options, including, I think, more cache control. There's still the about:config interface if you want that. The purpose of Firefox was to peel it down to just the basics so that it's lighter than IE, which is already on pretty thin ice compared to Opera. I'm not blaming you for wanting to control anything; that's why the instructions in the first mail clearly said "Mozilla Firefox or Mozilla".

And again, as for those "REDICULOUSLY fucked up [wrong size] at start, and when I click something it takes a few seconds for it to go "DUH! HE CLICKED"" type of errors, it sounds like you didn't remove all old versions of Firefox / Firebird / Phoenix and flush your profile folder (close Firefox, run %AppData% and delete all folders within Phoenix\Profiles\Default\ and Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\Deafult, then reopen Firefox).

In an ideal world, should all users have to do this to get a functional browser? No, but this isn't an ideal world, and in an ideal world those versions would already have been finished, and that's why this version and every version before it is still 0.x, which means beta. If you have done this and it still happens, then I can understand you being upset.

For the Opera users: How's my layout look? I know XK's having some sort of problems with it, I'm really not sure why. (From the screenshot, it looks like there's things getting cut off and moved around strangely, even random red blobs. ) Anyone else not seeing it right? (Here's a picture of what it should be, from a real post. Don't judge it by the bio page, for some reason everything's messed up in there. Also, I've since killed the smilie in the top left since it wouldn't stay in the right spot. ) Also please mention what theme, browser (with version) and resolution you're using. (In the screenshot: Circuit, Mozilla 1.6, 1280x1024.)

Jesper: Regarding the large amount of IE users, might any of them be Googlebots? They're likely to report as being IE, since a lot of stupid pages are designed for it. (Keep in mind, even if they can't view layouts, any images put in the actual post linked from wootest.net, or for that matter any links to wootest.net would get a hit or two.)

All Googlebots' user agent strings contain "Google". I searched for "Google" and it didn't match, and had it matched I'd have removed it.
